One of a few different articles seen in recent days: http://mashable.com/2014/12/29/internet-explorer-vs-spartan/

I believe one of the unstated reasons for Redmond to move to Spartan is security related. IE is a product which from the very beginning did not consider security factors much like the rest of the offerings coming from Microsoft.

They've significantly improved the browser over the years, but you still see posts saying how awful it is compared to Chrome and Firefox which are much less true now than they were 5 releases ago.

Any idea if this means that their Excel Web Browser interface will change as well? I have a lot of scripts that use the internal Excel Browser (which seems like a slightly limited version of Internet Explorer).

A good question -- don't know.

My concerns lay with the HTML parsing engine found in IE. I have more than a few apps which are dependent upon it.

IE 11 has been giving so trouble that I went back to IE 10. But it was so bad that I ever thought about using Chrome or Firefox. Speaking about Firefox, yesterday I finally got it off my machine after 6 weeks of trying. I wish I could tell how but I am not sure.

I cannot use Internet Explorer 11 on one of my machines. I have not found any indication of why anywhere. It messes up one of the Windows processes on my Windows 7 64 bit machine. It works on the Windows 7 32 bit machine and works extremely well on the Windows 8.1 machine.

They claimed it was an integral part of their operating system when they tried to ram it down our throats a few years ago. Now, apparently, they are having troubles because it is too close to their operating system.

Now, apparently, they are having troubles because it is too close to their operating system.Apparently it goes into a "firefight mode" (my term) with some programs on windows 7 64 bit. May be on windows 8 too. It takes a fair amount time to figure which programs. You have to uninstall each one, one at a time until you find it. It is easier to go back to IE 10 which does not appear to that problem. Pretty easy to do if you updated to IE 11. I haven't a clue if you started with IE 11.

The solution I was "given" was to reinstall or refresh the Windows 7 operating system to start "fresh" and then try IE 11 again. Not interested.

Separately, I am seeing reports on the internet that they are not totally abandoning Internet Explorer. Not sure that it makes sense to provide two browsers, but that seems to be their initial goal:

What I did was get rid of the short cut. I am interested if anyone has had this problem and how they solved. My computer is HP windows 7 64 bit.

My computer is HP windows 7 64 bit.I have not tried it on FireFox, but I have been using JV16 Powertools for quite a few years. Based on my experience, they seem to be good at removing remnants of programs you want to remove.

They have a 30 day free trial from what I am reading here:

http://www.macecraft.com/jv16-powertools-2014/

Full disclosure: They are a strange company which sold me a lifetime subscription and then tried to sell it to me several times more. Then, they asked for donations so that they could make open source freeware (which makes no sense, since they were still trying to get me to buy a subscription that I already had).

YMMV

Use Control Panel and uninstall a program. You are looking for Mozilla not FireFox.

Get REVO Uninstaller.
Windows doesn't really get rid of things.

REVO is bet if it is the first program you put n your machine, but even after the fact, is very good.

A quick google search shows that I am not the only one that has the same problem. No one seems to have a solution that works. The damn thing is worse than any virus I have run across.

I like it much more than IE or Chrome, but it also freezes or crashes more often.

Face it, any one that uses a computer is just plain anti-social and very likely an anarchist.

Also, there seems to be an option within Microsoft Edge (the new browser) to "Open with Internet Explorer" which appears to do what it says. Apparently it is there in some manner.

Huge Thanks for this program, It got rid of Firefox where Add/Remove programs would not uninstall. Plus it cleaned the registry of all the leftovers.
Firefox did nothing but crash and spin and cause a problem and I tried everything for several days to fix it. Back to IE for the present.

Revo uninstaller is very cool-thanks. I love free utilities that WORK as advertised and don't try to change your home page, search engine, etc.

I like Firefox. It may be old school, but I need the menu bar on the top left and Firefox is the only browser with that option.

I don't like symbols as buttons. I want things spelled out before I click on them.

I liked Firefox also. However, when they did 2 updates in about 10 days to Version 40. something; my computer started to freeze and take forever with the spinning blue wheel... I tried redownloading it and had the same issues.
Somehow IE 11 is not doing that.
