One of the most difficult things for me to accept was the idea that I could rely on the opinion of others and--in some cases--actually take advantage of that opinion. The downside is that every once in awhile, I don't bet a horse I had picked as a solid contender. The upside is that I save quite a bit by NOT making bets that turn out to be losers.

I have no idea what kind of records you keep in regard to the mutuel ranges of your selections. As much as I like long priced winners, when a horse that I figure is the best in the race goes off at better than 50-1, I think I would have been reluctant to make the bet. Your records may indicate otherwise--for all I know you win enough very long prices to make up for it. If not, you may want to do some study of how your selections fare when they go off at long prices.

Lots of bettors are wired into the idea of "value betting." I think the opposite is more useful--to regard a horse that goes off at a price that would return triple digits for a win with a healthy amount of skepticism--without regard for what kind of numbers or ratings it seems to have.

Happy Holidays to you too HW. Your posts have been very helpful.
I do agree somewhat with Tray. In harness racing "money talks" and I think more than T-breds. Maybe because the pools are smaller. A horse "dead on the board" is probably NOT an overlay although there are exceptions there too.

Today WON: $334.85
Ending TOTAL: $1729.65
NET WIN: 8/27/14 - 12/14/14 + $704.65

See Attached for complete results.

As for betting 50/1 shots, why not.

Today out of eight races, I had 5 winners;

$58.00, $15.60, $8.30, 8.00, & 3.60

You never now what you are going to get.

The only thing that counts is if you win money in the long run.
The only way to do that is to stay with your winning percentages.

Many here will not believe it, but there is a big difference between handicapping and gambling. I was a professional handicapper for 31 years, so I should know that to be a fact.

I am not sure that I will be back next year, as I got very little response to what I presented.

I do have the races beat....

Posting my printouts on PA has been a great help in finalizing my program.

Thanks to the few that gave me encouragement.

You have been doing great work here. I did make money with you Sunday that i turned most of it over to the big A, but that's another story. I do hope you return, but I've seen enough to have no qualms to pay for this kind of handicapping. I just wish I would have played triples yesterday with your selections.
