Savoy Stomp is a 2-year-old who was purchased for $875,000 by Team Valor and is trained by Todd Pletcher. He's got a knockout pedigree and I feel we'll be hearing from him a lot during the three year old Derby prep season.

Mr. Schless, Thanks for sharing. I enjoy reading your pedigree articles.
I sent you a brief note via Facebook.

His second start was disappointing, as he had the best TimeformUS number going into the race.

I also noticed the horses from his maiden win aren't exactly the best.

In his 2nd start (Grade 2), he ran with Blofeld who had already won a Grade 2 and El Kabeir who went on to win a Grade 2 in his next start. He was in a little over his head in that race, that's all. Plus it was run in the mud. Also, he paid $13.20 in his maiden win. An $875,000 purchase Pletcher horse with those odds as a first time starter tells me there was some decent competition in his race.

Thanks for the great article. According to my stable mail, he will be running at Gulfstream with Castellano riding on December 17 (race 9). The horse is certainly one to watch going forward.

Thanks for the compliments-I really appreciate them. I love writing about pedigree and will continue to focus on Kentucky Derby contenders or horses with brilliant pedigrees moving forward. If you have any suggestions please let me know. Can't wait to see Savoy Stomp race on the 17th.

Savoy Stomp finished third with no excuse, unless Gulfstream was speed favoring today which I read a lot of, but people write that it's speed favoring so much I don't know when to believe them.

Purchase price is only a good handicapping tool for the career debut. The more they run, the less that stuff matters.

I could have sworn the winner was 7-1.

He paid 8 bucks?

No Lasix either...

I try and avoid no L horses because i feel that while the connections are still theoretically 'trying' they're not trying hard enough. If you want to make it appear you're trying harder, you use lasix.

I just tried to pull up the Trakus data for this race, but it seems as though it is the only race on the Gulfstream card today for which there is no data listed. Does anyone have the info (particularly Distance/Delta for the horses)?

I tend to be skeptical of a long workout pattern(12 works)from a long layoff, with 3 at Saratoga, but fails to draw in a race at the premier meet in the country. Think Savoy not firing on all cylinders, but only win did come here at Belmont at 7f, with today's race at 6.5, connections say give it a go......Still, not worth the investment, IMO.

I've always thought his pedigree and high price tag fooled people. I bet on him once after his maiden win, and never again.

He looks nice on track, but this race is wide open, and he may need a race, even if he is good enough to win today.

Nope. Intent was strong today. Was ridden aggressively and his stablemate didn't fire today.
Exciting photo finish win.
