The kill saved taxpayer money. However, a good shot would have been to the leg or shoulder to disable, not kill.

The real world doesn't work quite that way.

A good shot is one that ends the threat. That was a good shot.

Some Acadamies actually used to teach you to talk that way in high stress situations. The academy I went to in California did in 1983. In Ohio they didn't.

One theory is that it communicates the seriousness of the situation or commands.

Today it's so common, probably doesn't make a difference

Common to criminals, perhaps. Police are professionals and should act professionally.

Your two cent comment is appreciated. How about if both legs were shot and he was incapicitated? Would it make you feel better?

He was shot from a distance of at 10'. Easy shot to direct at any part of the body.

There are no easy shots under stress.

In New York, many other municipalities and some federal agencies, guidelines instruct officers to shoot to “stop” — and in particular, to stop an assailant who poses a deadly threat to the officers involved or civilians.

“We do not train our agents to shoot to wound or to shoot the gun out of someone’s hand, we train them to shoot to stop the threat,” said William G. McMahon, the special agent in charge who heads the New York field division of the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. “In the milliseconds a law enforcement officer has to react during a life-threatening situation, aiming to wound is not an option.”

You can't do that due to asshole lawyers. Why do you think 20 years ago we started hearing things like "center mass". "Shoot until the threat is neutralized"

Many police departments stopped issuing "marksmen" badges etc

Because if you shoot somebody in the leg, arm etc.......the next question in a civil trial becomes, "if you are such a good shot, why not shoot the gun out of my clients hand" "you are a marksmen, right? It's right there on your uniform"

So police departments starting teaching "center mass to neutralize the threat" this was a way to avoid civil judgements etc. read past the lines man. Lawyers are why we do millions of things.

You know, like those tags on the new iron that advise you to take your clothes off before you iron them

Stop trying to lay what happened here on the police.

Aren't legs a moving body part? I mean if they miss a shot through the legs, someone can lunge 10 feet pretty fast.

http://www.whio.com/videos/news/911-call-surveillance-video-together/vCtDnb/

The above is real time video of what I describe below.

Man goes into Walmart to pick up a few things. Man picks up toy pellet long-gun that is open on the shelf. Man carries it around with him in store. Man goes to pet food section and talks on cell phone for several minutes.

Man#2 calls 911, says man with gun at Walmart, and is pointing it at people. Man with toy gun is not pointing it at people. Man#2 says man is loading weapon. Man is not loading weapon. Man#2 says man pointed gun at two children. Man did not.

Police enter store and shoot man with gun on sight. Police later claim man was told repeatedly to drop gun. Video shows he was shot instantly upon confrontation.

Police grill girlfriend who was waiting in car, threatening her, suggesting she was on drugs.

Dan, got any more "evidence" from the -5 sigma side of the world?
that is like posting a video of a Black guy robbing a store. What the hell is the point of it? to suggest all Blacks are thieves?

Yeah, some cops screw up.
you got any video of Fireman looting the WTC on 9/11 you want to share with us?
