Dr. Fager breaks world record at a mile
Washington Park - Aug 24th, 1968

Carrying 134 pounds, the late kick, and ease of victory, is terrific

My bad.
Washington Park H'cap at Arlington Park.

I should have recognized those fine cars heading towards Rolling Meadows. ;)
My mom and I had moved away from nearby Palatine about a month before that race.
I was 10 years old, and soon to become a racing fan.

Well, I could post Secretariat's Belmont "slaughter", but everyone's seen that one multiple times. No doubt, the classiest performance this dude has ever seen! Nobody does what Big Red did that day.

I was the person who originally sent them the link from twitter. To be 100% fair I have to give credit to Maggie Wolfendale she sent the first tweet about the race. They put it on the next show there was no waiting so they really loved it. There was a horse named go papi go but he hasn't raced since 2012. If there was a link to him winning his two races I'm sure it would be on the show pronto. The same would go for any horse with papi in it would appreciate the link.

I know a lot of people despise the show but I would give everything I own if I could do one with my dad (mhrip) tomorrow. Lets face it if it weren't for our dads (in most cases) we wouldn't be as interested in horses and sports as we are today.

Dancing Brave wins the Arc. Incredible turn of foot at the end. Beat one of the best Arc fields that day.

STOP THE PRESSES!

Now here is an incredible piece of racing history, one that I had read about for decades, but never actually seen any footage of, until just now when I stumbled on some old Pathe footage on Youtube.......

The 1936 Gold Cup at Ascot. US Triple Crown winner, Omaha, had shipped over to England as a 4yo to take on England's best. He and the wonder filly Quashed dueled down the stretch after 2-1/2 miles, with the filly finally holding him off at line. This race was ranked no.1 in the Guardian's list of "Ten Greatest Races of All Time" (http://observer.theguardian.com/osm/story/0,,782470,00.html)

If anyone is interested in purchasing historic memorabilia, I have the program of this race, plus an old British photo card of the champion Quashed......
