Maybe you should watch the video again and look for the jockey lying motionless on the ground 20 yards from the gate. Looks like they just managed to get him off the track and under the rail before all the horses came around the turn into the stretch.

I would freak out had I bet the leading horse.

If you pause the replay you can see that the jockey was already off of the track.

Outrider was thinking she had a human man life to worry about. I was at Charles town a number of years ago when a jock got trampled to death.

As a matter of fact, even pulling a prone jockey off the track for the sake of completing a race is ridiculous and can cause greater injuries.

Race should have been stopped as soon as it was apparent the jock could not walk off the track under his\her own power.

Great job by the outrider doing the right thing thing under very difficult circumstances....There was 5 more races at CT and scores of other betting opportunities from the simulcasts. So they cancel a race before it is completed. Deal with it and go on to the next race.

Not to nitpick but what exactly was the announcer thinking? He said the 8 went wide around the final turn and was confused well after it was obvious to every one that the race was a no contest.

Is the jock ok..?

Outrider made the right decision. No question.

But you can't wait to see if he'll makes it in the nick of time, the decision needs to be made as the horses turn into the backstretch on a track that small.

I hear SRU. Nice guy. Met him on one of my visits back home to CT. But a real dooph when it comes to racing IQ.

It is possible the outrider got a call from stewards, ordering to stop the race as it will be a no-contest. It looked like a few of the jockeys had eased up already on backstretch.

I guess that must've been what happened. Not much time to make the call so they decided to err on the side of caution. Just seemed odd stopping a race when the jock was apparently already off the track.

How about another way NOT to win. The first at Aqueduct today. I had to leave at 10:45 this morning. Post time 11:20. I played a 60 super 1-6-4-3/1-6-3-4 and then 40 dollar 6-1-3-4/6-1-4-3. Get home and see it came in 6-1-4-3 and then find out they scratched the :5: right before the race. A first time starter going long, filly against the boys with a terrible trainer and terrible workouts who was 30-1 or so when I left. With the scratch there was no super so it cost me a profit of around 800 or more. This is the third time this year this has happened to me with the super being canceled near the start. Each time it was a scratched horse with no hope of being there. Just can't catch a break.

Typically, that is exactly what happens. Radio contact with the Stewards giving the instruction to the outrider to halt the race.

It's tough to see what is going on from the track on a pony with both rails in the way. Very clear to see from above.
