they are writing these races this year. in Tampa, they wouldn't even allow these horses to run on their turf (maybe different this year).

these horses would all get dusted at the Mountain running for open $5000 on the dirt.

the few things i can say are that they are large fields, and people haven't stopped betting on them.

Fair Grounds open's today as well. their top 3 races are 2 Louisiana bred maiden races and also a state bred nw2 allowance.

What about the $40k NYB Maidens running in NY now? Pathetically bad race in yesterday's finale where the winner came home in just under 28 flat... and took home the ~$30k purse as well. :bang: :bang:

Gulfstream is giving the horses a chance,Doesn't matter if they would get "dusted" at another track.I applaud GP for doing this..Lots of horse do like the turf but are never given the chance unless they are high level claimers, allow or stake horses. I think PJ Campos is doing a great job at having this meet going as good as it is .Im also sure there is no other meet in the US with the field sizes that he is getting. He has every condition for the horseman to choose from,A far cry from other years here trying to run on the turf..Purses are good and management has been treating us well..Tampas new book is out with a min of 16k to run on the turf and much smaller purses..JMO

i am not knocking it, a matter of fact i have to give them credit for giving the public more competitive racing by going that low. they are dealing with what they have. in the long run i think this is great for racing. it is giving a smaller trainer some type of a chance to compete in a big sea. racing needs more owners and lots of different trainer's that win races. that is the best way to bring longer lasting interest to the game.

Its a great idea to give some cheap claimers a chance on the turf and a lot of full fields for the bettors, turf course is pretty chewed up now, but will have 10 months to heal.....
