If Palmer had stayed healthy I'd pick the Cards. Nine and 1 for the season, and I think they finished out last season 8 and 2. Pretty insane. Plus the big game is in their stadium. Pats are an automatic fade for me. I don't think Brady will ever win another Superbowl and have been saying that for years. It's great what a strong team culture can do, and they show it each year with a new bunch of guys, but they don't have the extra ingredient for another SB. Right now the Packers are firing on all cylinders. If they can keep that up for a few more weeks, they're my pick. Peyton is always in the discussion, but his teams play at such a high level during the regular season that they don't have a 'next' level for the playoffs. Anyway, it's a crap shoot because any key injury can wipe out any selection.

I spent most of October in England. That meant I was allowed to bet legally on just about anything. That's my idea of a free country.

Anyway, I had the opportunity to bet the NFL legally in England for a month of Sundays and it was fun. It also gave me a chance to bet on the Super Bowl winner. Here are the bets I made:

My personal choice was 20 pounds each way on Arizona at 20-1. I made the bet just before the Cardinals beat the Eagles. (I should have known I couldn't trust a football player named Carson Palmer! :( ) I knew Arizona's schedule down the stretch was really tough but it just seemed like this might be the year if they could win the NFC West.

Then my wife wanted to take a shot. So she took the Eagles for 20 pounds each way at 18-1 because she likes Nick Fowles (goodnight!) and the Eagles exciting style of play.

Finally, a buddy of mine mentioned in an e-mail how much he liked the Kansas City Chiefs. I took the hint and bet 20 pounds each way for him on the Chiefs at 33-1. This last bet was made on November 4th and is looking better every day.

FYI, "20 pounds each way" means I bet 40 pounds total on each team above. 20 pounds are paid on the full odds if the team wins the Super Bowl. The other 20 pounds is a place bet so to speak and pays off at one-half the win odds if the team selected loses in the Super Bowl game. For example, if Arizona makes it to the Super Bowl and loses, I collect at one/half the win odds. So in Arizona's case a Super Bowl loss earns 20 pounds x 10-1 odds or I will get back 220 pounds. If Arizona wins it all I get back 420 pounds for the win and 220 pounds for the place bet or 640 pounds total.

You are right NJ Stinks people in a so called free country should be able to gamble. People call this a free country but we get so much puritan bullshit from the politicians and the bible thumpers. You can believe anything you want to believe in...........why does it have to affect me?

I like these odds because two of the top three are AFC teams and I kind of think neither Denver or New England will win. Either one can make it but I don't see them beating the top NFC team. These teams look great scoring 30, 40 and 50 points but when they face a stout defense that just never happens. I like the odds on the Cardinals and the Seahawks. Green Bay looks ok but the odds are a little short. You gotta play smash mouth at the end, you can't rely on a fancy QB and your passing game. That's the problem with the top AFC teams. Baltimore plays that way but they probably are not good enough. That being said that's the reason they actually won one recently though. People are worried about the Cardinals...Palmer has been out most of the season and they just keep crushing people. Their problem is the schedule and surviving the last 6 games vs. very physical teams. They keep changing these rules but defense can still trump all because many teams don't play it well. Look what the Rams did to Denver Sunday....they are a last place team in the NFC west..it was a defensive beat down. That's what some of these big teams in the AFC lack in the big game. Sure, things could change this year but if Denver or New England make it. Why would you take chalk on that bet? If a team like Indy makes it....blow out city again my friends. Sleeper in the AFC, the Chiefs, they play "d".

I'm saying that Seattle is back, and close to where they were last season.
Obviously, defense is their forte, and I can't see any team scoring much
against them the rest of the way - barring key injuries.

Betting them at 8-1 in SB futures, and playing them every week
in a parlay to the under. The final week might be a pass, should
they not be able to improve their playoff status.

Today: $50 parlay Seahawks -2 with Under 47

Right now, according to my power ratings, the game would be between Denver and Green Bay. Amazingly, Denver plays at almost the exact same level as last year (15.64 versus 15.56). Last year, Seattle was a clear standout (20.55), with Denver a distant second. This year, there is no such standout. Let's see what the final weeks of the regular season bring. Without a true standout team the championship may fall to Peyton by default.

Repeat of last year with Seattle and Denver. This SB will be closer however with Denver gearing up their running game for the playoffs. Seattle repeats as Champs with a 31-26 win:)

PS - I got it right last year before the season started:)
