Finally, the federal government is addressing one of the defining problems of our time.

Federal drug agents conducted surprise inspections of National Football League team medical staffs on Sunday as part of an ongoing investigation into prescription drug abuse in the league. The inspections, which entailed bag searches and questioning of team doctors by Drug Enforcement Administration agents in cooperation with the Transportation Security Administration, were based on the suspicion that NFL teams dispense drugs illegally to keep players on the field in violation of the Controlled Substances Act, according to a senior law enforcement official with knowledge of the investigation.

The medical staffs were part of travel parties whose teams were playing at stadiums across the country. The law enforcement official said DEA agents inspected the medical staffs of multiple teams but would not specify which ones were inspected or where. The official said that contrary to early reports, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers were not among them.

I guess that means that the feds have solved the drug problem on the southern border and now have the resources to address these burning issues.

Now if they could just do something about that Redskins name, we could all live happily ever after.

The drug problem has nothing to do with borders. No one is forcing the American public to use illegal drugs.

The drug problem has nothing to do with borders.

Perhaps you should advise the DEA of that. They seem to be laboring under the misconception that smuggling is a problem.

In spite of more pressing issues like drugs in the NFL, they are still expending a lot of resources trying to stop drug smuggling. Maybe those drug agents would be put to better use by retraining them as drug addiction counselors to address the root cause, stopping users rather than suppliers.

No one is "forcing" the Mexican drug cartels to smuggle their dope across the Mexico-U.S. border either, so what is your point?

I favor a more direct way of stopping users.

Shoot them.

If they didn't have this market so handy, it would just mean shipping
a bit further. The US has a voracious appetite for drugs, but demand
is world wide.

So? Maybe the demand wouldn't be so high if the drugs weren't so readily available.

Maybe the DEA should forget about the cartels and the border and lock up and/or shoot all the users instead?

Whatever his point is, it is missing the point here.

The point is that our "leaders" are more interested in looking like they are doing something (investigating drugs in the NFL, steroids in MLB, etc.) than in actually accomplishing anything of substance.
