Here's some theoretical Derby calls. Guess who they are:

1) There's a quarter of a mile to go; on the outside Smarty Jones, toward the rail its Lion Heart.....down the middle of the track comes Imperialism...but in deep stretch its all Smarty Jones

2) DOWN the stretch its Smarty Jones, in front. Has it by a length and a half. Lion Heart is second...up from the OUTSIDE, Imperialism gains ground....they're nearing the wire, its Smarty Jones, he wins it by 2 and a half.

3) Stuart Elliot asks Smarty Jones the question; Lion Heart is finding no more...and Smarty Jones strides out beauuuuuutifully to win the Kentucky Derby.

4) HERE THEY COME IN TO THE STRETCH AND THE ARKANSAS DERBY WINNER SMARTY JONES HAS THE LEAD.................THEY DRIVE TO THE WIRE THE OAKLAWN BASED SMARTY JONES WINS THE DERBY AND THE $5 MILLION BONUS!!!!!!!!!

Here's two old-timers:
5) Here they come spinning out of the turn SMARTY JONES! Has it by a neck LION HEART!.......Smarty Jones wins it by 3; Lion Heart second and Imperialism got up for third.

6) They pass the sixteenth pole...................Smarty Jones.....................in front.

1)
2) Battaglia
3) Denman
4)
5) Georgeff
6) Cassidy

I don't know the blanks, I won't guess and see what other come up with.

You're right on all 4 you named.

If #4 said "Down the Stetch" I'd go with Dave Johnson. Not sure if that is what you meant.

No. In fact this announcer always says "here they come into the stretch".

the 1 kinda sounds like vic stauffer, not sure about the 4

Valuist

Not Stauffer. I can't really think of a signature line for him. He sometimes is a bit more descriptive than most.

Figman

#4 - Terry Wallace who once was the announcer at the Great Barrington Fair in Massachusetts. If it is a mile race at Oaklawn, he calls "as they come into the short stretch...."

Figman is correct on Terry Wallace. I thought he (Wallace, not Figman) was going to lose a lung from yelling during the Ark Derby.

Hint on number 1: this track is on the East Coast.

Its been a long time since I heard them, but by placing his voice on your words, I could hear it as Keith Jones, one of my favorites.

Gotta go further south than Philly.

Yes, it was Saltzman. And you're right......they're not gonna get Smarty Jones today.

yes !! Sounds like you are a veteran of the So Cal circuit !...
I still remember Harry's call of the race .. With Seattle Slew
and J O Tobin. A few weeks after SS won the Belmont..I swear
I can hear him saying .... " Now it's JO Tobin extending his lead
over SS ..." I didnt listen to the "wise guys" who said that
SS was just being brought out to the coast to give the fans
a look...In those halcyon days....oh yes....The Card rooms,
Horse and Jockey a powerful source for winners....The old
power plant Turfcraft with Danny Baxter et al. There used to
30,000 people at SA on a Sat and Sun. And the re runs..on
radio no less ... I think it was KNX ... those were the days !
