View Full Version : Yonkers Sunday-are you kidding me

Just saw the entries. First 4 races are a mile and a quarter. The are you kidding me comes about in that the first two races have 12 horses in them. Really, a half mile track with 12 horses. How can anybody bet those races. Half the field has no chance and the other half will have horses going for the lead non stop. Only a degenerate gambler will place a bet when there is no clue on how the race will unfold.

How long are the races in sweeden? How big are their tracks? Definitely worth tuning into IMO....hell, I might even GO!!

I thought the same things when I saw the Sunday card. I urge extreme caution to anyone wanting to bet these races.

They are trying to appeal to French bettors. I think it may be good, although they should race at a mile and 5/16, start the races all the way to the right in the backstretch so that the horses don't have to leave directly into a turn, which would make the races much better.

I for one am happy that they are trying something like this. Wednesdays and Saturdays Sweden offers those multiple races (pick 8 on Wed nickle base bet & a Pick-7 dime base bet). Someone mentioned to me that they are exporting this signal to France and who knows, maybe the rest of Europe. Hope they have a small base for the pick 6 (think it will be the first six races, if not in the states, at least overseas).. I have to wonder if this will spread to other tracks if it increases handle?

I agree. The one mile races at Yonkers are pretty boring, anyway.

The numbers are in and it was a great trotting success (can't bet pacers in France).... Overheard Brennan in the paddock mention somewhere around $60k went to the horsemen....and for that, we thank you France....still not forgiving that airspace/bombin Libya thing but its a start. See y'all next week

And with the prices some of those 10/12 horse fields paid I'd guess there will be some folks sending it in (with both hands) next sunday on both sides of the Atlantic

Freehold starts at 1230 on Saturday. Cal expo ends at 230 am. Now I have to get home and prepare for balmoral and cal expo on sunday. So now at 5am I can go to bed. I would have to get up by 10 am for 11am Yonkers. If there is 300k in french money per race to go after then I can make the sacrifice. For 12k exacta pools at Yonkers I have to take a pass and get some sleep.

Using the dot to separate 1000's and a comma for the decimal point always confuses me.

I once tried to convert the Swedish programs to something the robot could use but the times were frustrating also.

2140m

0:36.1____1.14.3____0:37.1___________0:37.0____2:3 8.3

ind first 500 meter time.
ind first 1000 meter time.
ind last 500 meter time.
Winner’s pace time (ave time to trot 500 m.)
Winner’s total time.

My hat is off to salute anyone that is willing to tackle the 1 and a 1/4 mile & 12 starters on a half mile track enigma... :jump: :jump: :jump:

It seems that most or even all of my handicapping, speedwise at least, is so reliant on measuring the 1-mile race (only)...

One of the reasons, and for some this is just the opposite, that I quit the T-breds some time ago, is that I just love the symmetry and consistency of the the 1-mile race, vs the challenge of the changing distances and surfaces...It is much easier to see speed and pace patterns for me using the symmetry of 4-individual quarters, represented as whole numbers, as a baseline for measuring a horses particular effort and output vs. those individual whole number splits...

Races that are longer than one mile, just throws a clinker into my handicapping mix, and I become just about clueless trying to make an opinion based on info that just may not work in these longer and contestant laden races...

Not for me...I think I would quit this game first, before I would go searching "again" for something that I already have, and that is bought and paid for, dearly...Just my opinion, is all...

But good luck to those who like that sort of thing....

I am not saying that it is bad for the sport, especially if it brings in more fans and bettors...Just not for me is all..
