Anyone been in touch with melman? I sent him an email a while ago with no reply. He hasn't made a post since January, so I am wondering about him.

Fond memories of Melman. Liked hanging with him in the war room on Mondays & Tuesdays while he was playing Monticello and Freehold and wherever else-- plenty of laughs.

Mel, for a harness wacko, you were a great guy. :)

For anyone wondering about my friend Melman, he passed away in Feb. 2014. One of my favorite people and he is missed. My condolences to friends and family. When he didn't reply to any of my emails I assumed the worst. Ray2000 sent me an obit, but we weren't sure of melman's last name.

My fondest memories of him were chatting in the War Room. Talk about a great longshot 'capper...no one -- and I mean no one -- hit more $100+ horses than he did. If you happened to be in the WR he gave out a couple of them while he was playing. He went out of his way to help me with harness handicapping, but I didn't stay on the dark side too long. :)

He will surely be missed.

What I miss most is his humor, his stories on the "Ghost Tracks" Brandywine and Liberty Bell and the discussions on "Pic 3 vs Parlays".
Turns out his argument for the Pick bet was the strongest. He would have liked the Group Pick(x) test run. :)

Mel, If I end up in the same place, meet me at the bar, I'm buying....

Always very, very sad to read these types of threads.

Melman was a member of this board since the very beginning. I used to have many a private conversation with him via PM and email. His passion for the game never wavered and he would occasionally give me a swift kick in the ass when he thought I wasn't pulling my weight around here in keeping this the best horse racing message board around.

He probably would be kicking me pretty good right now, as usual...

My condolences to his friends and family and all those who had the honor and pleasure of knowing him in "real life."

You see a thread like this and hope it's not the worst case scenario, but, sadly, it is.

Good guy with whom I always enjoyed interacting.

RIP

I was really saddened to read this news. I remember times when I couldn't get in the war room because of some temporary glitch and Mel would go back and forth with me race by race in private email. What a great guy to exchange ideas with. My sympathies go out to his family.

I did not know Melman but apparently many of you did. My condolences go out to all of you who had the opportunity to share in this great sport with him. Out of curiosity.....what is/was the war room?

He was like a harness Wikipedia. He seemed to know everything about every harness track in the U.S and Canada.

what is/was the war room? The War Room was a chat room here at PA where a few 'cappers would make live plays and...well...chat. I think something changed with the vBulletin software and the WR was hard for people to enter. I don't think it's available here anymore.

I am so sorry to hear that. God Bless his soul. I met him online when we did the very first HANA Contest, Pen v Chip. Mel and me versus Ray's Robot and Tackmaster's Consortium.

We never met in person but we corresponded thru email when I had a problem with a harness software program.

We had a nice chat and Mel was very helpful.

My condolences to Melman's friends and family.

Really sorry to see this. He was a regular in the War Room and we had many chats, both public and private. Mel was a really sharp guy that helped me a lot in many ways, including giving me hell when I was out of line.
