Geneva (AFP) - Swiss voters on Sunday rejected a plan for a seismic shift from the country's all-private health insurance system to a state-run scheme.
Referendum results showed that almost 62 percent of voters had shot down a reform pushed by left-leaning parties which say the current private system is busting the budgets of ordinary residents.
I guess this is one time I wish the US was more like Europe -- or at least Switzerland.

I believe prices are regulated and capped in Switzerland.(could be wrong)
Here in the U.S.,pricing it seems has no end. The Swiss pay substantially lower
for health care services and drugs. How do they do it? Gee, must be that horrible socialism creeping in the Swiss borders. Oh no, they have a private health care system and they were smart to nix a state run system. Good for them.

"Healthcare in Switzerland is universal[2] and is regulated by the Swiss Federal Law on Health Insurance. Health insurance is compulsory for all persons residing in Switzerland (within three months of taking up residence or being born in the country)"
As usual PA righties miss the point..Healthcare expenditures per capita are substantially lower in OTHER "socialist" European and non-European OECD countries

Healthcare insurance in Switzerland is compulsory, it is privately run, but required by law.

So you approve the fact that the Swiss rejected a public health system in favor of keeping the private system they currently have. Interesting, because you just said that you approve of Obamacare. Here is an excerpt from your article.
The current system, used as a model for US President Barack Obama's controversial healthcare reform, requires that every resident in the wealthy nation of eight million hold basic health insurance and offers freedom of choice among the 61 companies competing for customers.
Except, of course, that Obamacare offers the option of paying a fine in lieu of obtaining insurance, which the Swiss system does not appear to do.

And what has the "Affordable" Care Act done to change this?
And what has the "Affordable" Care Act done to change this? That is another question that we all have responded to on many threads. But healthcare in Switzerland proves nothing as you gents want to believe. It is much more of a mix of socialism and capitalism than what you gents say. It is no way a demonstration free market capitalism and I repeat "Healthcare expenditures per capita are substantially lower in OTHER "socialist" European and non-European OECD countries"

But, generally, one gets what he pays for. Perhaps Swiss-style care is of appreciably higher grade than in those commie-minded (oops...meant to say "socialist" countries. Cheap(er) cost does not necessarily equate with great value.

"You gents"??? Nice straw man. I said nothing about Switzerland or socialism. You are the one that brought US health care costs into the discussion, and then avoided that issue.
