Banana splits: Chiquita inches closer to ditching its U.S. citizenship
It might soon be time to sound the corporate tax inversion alarms again.
Chiquita Brands International and Fyffes, two of the globe's largest banana companies, are inching closer to combining forces after a failed merger attempt this past March. The two companies agreed in principal on Friday to a new merger deal, which still must pass a shareholder vote. If approved, the agreement will grant Chiquita shareholders a nearly 60 percent stake in the new company, a step up from the virtually even split the companies were previously considering.
