Almost every time a horse wins at 19-1 or higher, I check the pps to see if there is any pattern that can help me spot these big longshot winners. A couple of things I've noticed, several longshot winners had shipped in from the Fair circuit (and went much faster) where the tracks are usually very slow...I've also noticed that several of these big bombs were either shipping in from another track, or shipped in two starts back....

There's often some sign of improvement in one of last two starts, although it can be subtle...

Yesterday that $113 was Tony's dad? 72 yo?

FWIW, Tony's Dad is Eddie Morgan Jr., whom hails in Mich.
Tony's grandfather was a Eddie Morgan Sr.

In 1990 I visited Hawthorne, which held a winter meet (Jan-Feb) of double cards.

Walter "Butch" Paisley was still the king of Chicago, while you could get some box car payoffs on Tony Morgan. It didn't take people long to realize that Tony needed lower odds.
Paisley eventually injured his wrist and was never the same afterwards (lost his feel for the reins, I suppose).

I have always been a fan of Anthony Morgan going back many years. He's getting up there but he still has it.

Don

Is Terry Morgan then unrelated to Anthony and Eddie?

(I'm coming up empty googling Terry Morgan, Harness)

Believe that's a different Morgan Family, Ray.

Tony's grandfather (Eddie Sr) raced mostly in the NorthEast, however occasionally had some Grand Circuit horses.
.
Eddie Jr., made his bones after relocating to Ohio, and finally Mich (after some trouble in Ohio). Eddie Jr. stayed in Mich and Northern-Ohio with very low-quality stock, however made a living with same for decades.

Buddy of mine used to own a couple of harness horses back when Tony and his brother Greg were at QCD and Fairmount in the winter back in the mid 1980s, and Tony and Greg trained and drove them. Awesome driver.

Was at the Peoria OTB one time, and watched Tony bring in a 50-1 shot parked the whole mile at the Springfield fair on some mule running for those inflated purses. Stayed a head in front of the chalk all the way around. One of the regulars went nuts cussing him for cheating..... :D

Some of my favorite Morgan horses were Kellytucknichol, Shady Buddy, Lectric Horse and Air Coryell.

i like all the horses that Nick Zito is going to put out in Keeneland this upcoming meet. he has a good shot to be leading trainer there in October.
