Gonna dip my toe in the big pool again tonight.

Race 1: Almost have to play the :3: if you play the race - never hit the board in 17 starts, and now the chalk dropping a class. Looks good in the post parade. Like the :1: a smidge if speed is holding, like the :9: if they close in the stretch.....

Race 1 results: :4: :12: :9: :2:

Another "don't make sense" chalk, and this one doesn't run a step.

Ouch.

Had trouble getting into PA to post picks for 2nd race. At the risk of being accused of redboarding, I played the :9: with five others, but missed the Q.

Results for Race 2: :7: :9: :8: :12:

3rd Race: Playing the :9: again. Qs with the :1: :4: :8: :10:

D'oh! Saw the horse flip in the gate and noticed the :9: horse had the stall next to him. Went to get a bowl of ice cream, and about halfway through the race figured out I had no vested interest 'cause my horse was scratched.

Race 3 results: :4: :1: :7: :5:

No biggie. First two were chalks.

Race 4: :6: looks lively on the tote, though speed and inside speed especially doing well.

Taking :6: each way, Qs with :3: :5: :7: :9: :11:

:7: looking very odd with a half trimmed tail. Never seen that before....

Race 4 results: :6: :9: :3: :4:

Thanks Lambo - thought maybe the :6: dog had too much to do in the stretch, but he was all world (Class 5) today.

Didn't like that tail on the 7, and was lucky the :11: broke badly. Nice profits so far tonight, and will try to avoid giving it all back.... :)

Argh. :12: got a perfect trip, and just came up empty.

Race 6: Each way play on the eight-year-old, :4: . Inside seems the place to be, and hopefully he won't be too far back.

Don't much care for the chalk :12: moving up in class, and not showing he's anything special in the speed figure department. On the other hand, he looks good in the walking ring, and should stalk with a good trip.

Race 6 results: :3: :12: :10: :9:

Winner :3: Abraham Lincoln at 30-1, and lights up the tote.

:4: got a great trip, and another selection that backs up when the serious running starts. :(

Race 7: Chalk :3: looks very, very impressive in the walking ring. Gonna try to sneak the :6: in the tri or Q.

Race 7 results: :3: :7: :2: :8:

Winner had to make room, but won easy. My longshot selection decided to spot the field a huge lead, and was no factor.

Race 8, Class 1 sprint at 7 F.

Gonna play the :7: who looks good on the track with a prettied up mane, and saver Qs with the :4: :5: :9: . I also like the :6: on looks, but he's gained a lot of weight since his last start, so I think he needs a race.

Race 8 results: :11: :8: :5: :6:

:7: made a move early, then was bumped a couple of times trying to get off the rail after having a decent trip. No punch left late.

Race 9: tough race. Small win bet on :11: , with saver Qs with :2: :5: :7: :8: :9:

Race 9 results: :5: :3: :2: :7:

:11: got a decent trip going to the front, but then faded like a stuck pig.

Race 10: Get out race. Gonna play the :4: with q savers with :1: :5: :14:

Race 10 results: Argh. :1: :4: :2: :6: Teased for a nice hit, watching my 29-1 shot get run down in the last few yards by the chalk to lose by a short head. Cashed my saver Q, but would have really been cackling like a chimp if the :4: hung on.

Cashed tickets in 4 of 9 races tonight, and am not even getting serious yet. Love this circuit......

Just woke up to see this, good job man  I love the payouts on HK trifectas. I haven't a clue on how to properly handicap their races, but I want in on the counterclockwise action!!

hoofless, what info are you using for your handicapping?

Look at this thread for some links to info:

Right now I'm just using the PPs that are on the HKJC's web site, as well as the "North American" versions from Xpressbet and TVG, as well as my eyeballs during the walking ring coverage and early races - the inside has been good so far in the afternoons.

The thing I love about HK racing is it's so formful, and the results all come down to trip and class. I'm compiling the results from earlier this year, and it started out a bit ugly, but I feel like I'm starting to get more dialed in now.

I'm going to try another service's PPs too, as soon as the majority of the horses get a start or two back under their belts for this season.

I haven't been following HK races but for 9/21 races, are all of the races on turf or does the track surface just appear green?

Thanks.

Most of the races are on one of the three turf courses, but they also have an all weather surface for "mixed" race days. Here's a link with more info:

http://www.hkjc.com/English/racinginfo/racing_course.htm

The pace is usually pretty honest in their races, which helps make them more formful. Some of the craziest races are the 5F turf sprints where one or two horses look like they've got jet-assisted takeoff boosters strapped on late in the race....
