I roll my own desktops. Built one about two years ago. The major components are:

ASUS P8Z77-V Pro motherboard
Intel Core I5 3570K OC'd to 4.3GHz
XFX Radeon 7870 2GB
Corsair 8GB x 2 LP RAM
Corsair 650 watt PSU
Samsung 830 128 GB SSD
Samsung 840 120 GB SSD
Windows 7 Pro
Three Western Digital HDDs from the old 'puter (2.3 TB worth) as well. For about $800 in new parts, this machine rocks. Would love to upgrade the 21" ASUS monitor to a 24" IPS model, but the screen works for now.

My laptop is a Core i7 Toshiba Satellite. It's ok. I need to upgrade to an SSD or hybrid drive as the 5400 RPM in it now sucks.

I have an ASUS
AMD A6

2-LG thin benzel monitors both 23"
1 Dell Monitor 21"
8 gigs ram
2 radeon drivers 1G each

2-sata drivers for storage
Windows7

JMHO because I am not that computer literate, The AGP does make a really nice picture and works nice but I wish I had stayed with the athlons and the co-processors.

The multi cores are nice but from a practical point, for me, I am not sold it was worth the money, buuuuut, now that I am in the middle of the river... :D

LOL - I have about a 4-5 year old Compaq Presario, AMD Athlon X2 4200 dual core, 160GB SATA drive, 6GB RAM, Cirago 80GB USB 2.0 external hard drive, running Windows Vista on a 23" ACER monitor.

My better half has another 4-5 year old desktop, HP Pavilion, internals almost mirror my Presario, pushing a 22" Acer monitor. The desktop cost about the same thing mine did, maybe $20 more.

Also have an older Acer Aspire 17" display laptop, with an Intel Centrino processor, running Windows Vista, 240GB HD (and needs a new battery bad! Gotta keep it plugged in all the time.) Given to us by my better half's mom!

I also have an Chinese Android 4.1, 5" Phablet (Samsung NotePad clone), with dual SIM slots, for 2 separate providers, and can produce a WIFI hotspot. With an unlimited everything plan, it comes in handy when you need a WIFI signal for your laptop but none are in range!

These are all I need, for what I use them for anyway. I paid $246 for my desktop, $130 for the 22" monitor and $160 for the 23" all bought brand new from Frys. My Android Phablet cost me $160, with 3 day shipping from China, bought from Everbuying.com! So, all told, we have less than $1500 in all that stuff.
