Why would he be arrested. Lots of people walk around DC carrying guns, knives and apparently hatchets.

This happened at the Centers for Disease Control. The guy was a security officer and was operating the elevator. Details are still confused, but some reports say the guy was an ex-con. The Secret Service is supposed to screen anyone that is going to be in close contact with the president, and it appears they goofed on this one.

According to a sarcastic remark made by Congressman Stephen Lynch D-Mass, the intruder penetrated so far that he got what would be half of a White House tour.

Secret Service officials instructed agents involved with the armed guy in the elevator incident not to file written reports on the matter. The cover-up is always a bigger stink than the screw-up. This should be good for a couple of days of Congressional hearings and lots of bluster from both sides of the aisle.
