Why do exacta payouts fluctuate so much? I hit them so little because I generally go for longer odds in both spots to compliment my win and place wagers and the payoffs disappoint me most of the time.
Case in point the 8th at Kentucky Downs yesterday. The 5th choice over the 8th choice in a field of 12 (8.8-1 over 14.7-1) returns $117 on the buck. I was expecting a lot closer to $200, is that right? I place the wagers in the morning and leave so I don't normally watch the will pays. I hit a similar odds exacta last week at DMR in a smaller field that returned $254.
I also hit the 1st race ex at KD for a whopping $38, but I can understand it because the 4 took so much money.
Flustered.
