They ought to worry about this:

and they should be more concerned about tote manipulation and bad judging rather than trying to silence one of their greatest ambassadors.

Is Mountainman next to be censored? If he is he should find a new home.

Most corporations have strict rules of what can be presented publicly and what cannot. For example, my company's policy is that I cannot on any public forum, say anything about any current, former, or potential future customer of the firm or their employees or those of their affiliates. Since the company is a worldwide organization and deals with both corporations and individuals, this can include nearly everyone. I also cannot say anything about the industry in which I work without preclearance from a series of bureaucrats.

I would not so much blame Mountaineer so much as the legal profession (and perhaps by extension to those of us who like to sue others and the insurance companies who provide liability insurance and insist on certain rules). Perhaps they will put Pete (and Nancy and Mark) on a 5 second delay so that they can potentially bleep any untoward comments. Of course that will mean the race calls won't match the video. Just a minor issue if it will save liabilities.

One of the things that have been appealing about Mountaineer was the autonomy Peter and M'tainman have from 7-10:30 each evening while in the air as well as there comments here on the board. I was just a Sunday night listener and player and became full time after reading and enjoying these guys on here. They're unabashed comments got me interested in playing MTR much more that an occasional Sunday night. The suits got this one all wrong. Horse players love the humor and the transparency of their comments. At least this one does.

Please allow me to jump in here to clarify a few things. First and foremost, I was not directed by anyone at Mountaineer to close my Twitter account or to stop posting on this or other forums. (I doubt anyone at Mountaineer even knows I have a Twitter account).

Mountaineer recently issued guidelines about social media activity - as do most big companies these days - and they appeared a little too complicated and restrictive for me and my "blunt sarcasm," as it has been labelled in this thread.

The Mountaineer Casino Twitter feed makes scant mention of the racing product. I was trying to fill that gap, while often wandering off the rails to other subjects.

Seeing the word "termination" in the directive was enough for me to shut down, for fear I might become argumentative at anti-Mountaineer tweets or posts. Again, this was my choice and my choice alone and I apologize to my 400+ followers on Twitter.

It's no secret that Mountaineer will face extra competition from the new racino in suburban Youngstown, OH in a few days and I was trying to do my bit to keep information about our racing product out there in the Twittersphere. It was a thankless labor of love but the possible negative (termination for "blunt sarcasm" that some followers misinterpret) outweighs the positives (keeping Mountaineer followers up to date with tidbits).

I hope I have explained myself.

Its odd that a small track in the middle of nowhere is concerned that their track announcer, who is well liked on the boards and respected in the industry would ever do or say anything that might convince one dollar of betting handle to go away from Mountaineer and to some other track.

They need to be more concerned about shaky stewards rulings and coordinating post times with other tracks than what their announcer might or might not say on Twitter. Those are the reasons they'll lose handle, not an occasional sarcastic remark from the track announcer.

One of the brightest spots at Mountaineer is their announcer...and thru all the wildly inconsistent judges calls, the drug stuff as talked about by Lambo in another thread here and running their banner race on top of one of the top 3 races at Saratoga, they found a way to concern themselves with Peter Berry. That was the focus of their worries and concerns.

I thought the most wacky thing was that the 2nd place finisher, who came to an absolute stop, beat the 3rd place finisher by 40 or 50 also.

No doubt one of the most bizarre races ever run.

That's a fact. Or, in my case, something gets lost in translation, like referring to the half-mile pole as the (800m) erection. It's OK to say pole but not erection? Saying pole every time gets boring but I now know not to use erection again.
