very very sad to hear this Ralph. this didn't have to happen either.

thanks Joan for giving us a few laughs, and plenty of white light off to her friends and family.

Joan took her grandkids to Italy for a week last month. She posted some photos on Twitter. They appeared to have a ton of fun.

The boys I'm sure will always fondly remember that trip.

She was in good health and still constantly working at 81.. then you go in for a routine procedure, and WHAM. A real shame.

I can't say I grew up as a big fan, but my wife would often watch those "Fashion Police" shows that Joan did, and I grew to really appreciate her. Her wit was caustic to say the least, but it was also damn funny.

Patton Oswalt just tweeted, Goodbye, Joan. You deserved a louder death. I guess that sums it up..

Agree Dan. My wife was into Fashion shows whenever Rivers appeared on TV.
Sad indeed for the pain and suffering she endured over a simple procedure.

RIP Joan

In her long-ago pre-red carpet days, I used to tune in every afternoon to catch her (or at least her voiceover)(along with Gene Wilder and Zero Mostel) on The Electric Company:

Was sometimes a fan and other times not so much (she could be kind of nasty). She could be funny on Stern and had a decent show on NYC Radio, I think WABC-AM. She was someone you didn't wonder about what she thought on a topic or person (lol remember her savaging Yoko Ono).

Remember this movie:

Remember her husband Edgar committed suicide. She also had many quarrels with others-Johnny Carson, Letterman, some Heidi Klum joke, and recently Barack and Michele.

Have heard a few rumbles that her death may have not been quite an accident, but a hit. Supposedly she made some very unflattering remarks recently about the sexuality and preferences of the Obamas, and so-------??

Didn't want her to pass but every time I saw her on TV I had to change the channel. All those surgeries to her face sickened me. Vanity.

I can't say I enjoyed her work as a comedian that much, but like her outspoken support for Israel. RIP

Joan and Phyliss Diller woke me up to the fact that women can be hilarious on TV. I thought Joan was terrific in the 60's and 70's. Less so later on but not many of us get better with age in any field.

The facelifts were rough to watch but Joan had a great sense of humor until the end.

RIP.

If you had not seen her on fashion police, you missed out. She was fantastic and I even watched some of her "in bed with joan" shows.

She went out on top........... not many can say that........ albeit obviously a medical screw up was the cause....... maybe

Been reading the tabloids at the grocery checkout?
Has Elvis landed that spacecraft yet?
Or, more likely, are you on something?

I only really knew her from when she was on Howard Stern, but she was always great on there. Still sharp, funny and witty.

One of my favorite things about her is she has been one of the few lately to say things that offend/rattle cages and then when the PC police come to her and demand an apology, she tells them to stick it up their tush!

RIP Joan.

Kind of surprised she was only 81. I thought she was about 70 thirty years ago when she was on the Tonight Show semi-regularly.

Life is all about the choices one makes, once you start getting up there in age, sending cameras into openings becomes routine to find things that might be growing that can also be routine to cut out and remove extending ones life. The real danger is going under sedation, even in a hospital setting one can stop breathing but there they have more that be done. The choice to not have it done inside a hospital and in a clinic instead at 81 was Joan Rivers.

She one time said a 35 year old girl that was never married was called a old maid and a 70 year old man was a "good catch"......I'm going to miss her.

She was one of a few icon of comedy and entertainment.
She lived here life her way and never apologized to anyone for it.
She was racy and blue at times, but never resorted to bad language for a cheap laugh.

she sat in Johnny Carson's big chair when he was on vacation and more than handled the job.

I feel bad for Melissa - they were very, very close and this will be hard for her.

The played my all-time favorite sound bite from her today -she was modeling a dress and said, "Gown by Oscar Delaurentes, body by Oscar Meyer."

She was a very funny person.

RIP

Canceled my subscriptions to them last year.
Yes, last weekend in the parking lot of the MontBleu Casino South Lake Tahoe.
Yes, a losing streak at the track.

She bought me a beer!

Seriously, on a double date, my friend’s wife proclaimed her/our enjoyment of Joan. It was a million years ago at the “Upstairs at The Downstairs” somewhere in NY.

Joan sat at our table and had us hysterical with jokes, and free drinks.

When the tap came: “Oh grow up!” was the punchline. (She paid, I think.)

Thank you Joan. Rest for a short time and come back ASAP.

Can we talk......

Funny stuff on the air in tribute.
Standing in front of a huge flag, she says, "This is the face of America. And this is the face of comedy." point to her own face.
"and like the flag, this face has had 50 stars on it!"

Sorry, but when Joan Rivers won the Donald Trump Celebrity Apprentice several years ago, I wrote him off as ever being a GOP candidate.
I never watched his show again.
R.I.P. Joan.
