This town is going nuts over the O's, including me, well to a degree. Other than west coast games I'm there every night til the end.

I missed the entire first week of soccer. They start so early.

I watched Stoke City this AM vs. Man City playing at the Etihad. Stoke with a major upset 1-0.

Then NBC Sports switched to Newcastle vs Crystal Palace at NC aand CP tied it 3-3 in the 96th minute. There were 7 minutes of stoppage time.

Aren't Chelsea the faves this year ? I think Liverpool has little chance this year, very little.

BTW- the local cable outlet that does the O's and Nats, MASN 1 & MASN 2
(Mid Atlantic Sports Network) is now televising UEFA matches on Sat. and Sunday mornings. Are you getting anything like that there D ?

Yep, but I have to track it down because FOX has numerous regional channels and I never know where the games will be.
I think I get about 5-6 regional FOX channels

I have TWC and it offers 6, 7 or 8 additional channels from NBC generically labelled extra 1, extra 2, etc.

Most of the time slots for all of the extra channels do not have anything scheduled -- no program name, nada. However, if I select a specific channel then scroll down the listing I will find some BPL matches -- sometimes for the next day, other times many days in the future. And, they'll be missing the team names. And since I have my TiVo set up with some "wish lists" looking for keywords for specific teams, these programs never get automatically scheduled.

I suspect the reason for the TiVo never "catching" these matches is due to both NBC not ever knowing more than a few hours beforehand what match will be broadcast on what channel, and, the data missing which the TiVo needs to download and update the search database. So, I will browse for matches to manually schedule any I want to watch and which could be for matches I'd like to see. BTW, the NBCSN is barely better as far as my Tivo being able to automatically record BPL matches. OTOH, BEin Sports does a much better job of keeping things up to date which means me and my TiVo are much happier when it comes to La Liga, etc.

So, check you cable channel listing to see if you might have these extra channels which 95% of the time do not have anything being broadcast on them.

Di Maria played at Burnley for them on Saturday.
I don't think Vidal is official yet, though.

Today is a frantic transfer deadline day for all European clubs.

The qualifiers for the Euro 2016 tournament started this past weekend.
They have four 3-day periods of play between now and November,
then nothing until March.

It's the normal international soccer schedule setup.
Once Euro 2016 is over, it won't be long until they
start playing qualifiers for the 2018 World Cup.

It’s crazy. I remember when we played there against Manchester in the Champions League, they kill me. My heart was so happy. I had fantastic moments and I appreciate this club. For me it’s one of the best clubs in the world and I have passion for this club. Some players I am still in contact with because when I was there I created a good relationship with everybody, not just the players, all the staff around. And it was like my second family there too so I’ll not forget that the people treat me well. I’ll not forget.

I love Manchester, to be back, I never know, you never know. Of course I’m happy at Real Madrid, it’s my home, it’s my club but Manchester treat me unbelievable so we never know.

What an ambassador he has been for the club!
Even if he never returns, he is a Red Devil at heart.

C'mon....he came on with 14 minutes to go, and scored goals 7 and 8.
He'll be subbing on just like he did at Old Trafford.
I think he will eventually do best with a smaller club somewhere in Europe.

Good luck to him, though

Ya, well, whenever Hernandez plays, sub or not, it's always interesting to watch him. And now that's not during a BPL match any more.

And, if the rumors about CR7 come about, that'll be a double rub against the BPL as far as I'm concerned. I'll watch RM even more since I won't have to be subjected to CR7 and I can watch both Garith and Chich.

But then Swansea's got a match this weekend, so, let's see how they fair.

Get used to it....United are still a work in progress.
You can't buy a winning PL team - at least, not right away.
There are big holes in the defense, which hasn't been helped by injuries.

MUFC are heading in the right direction, but won't win anything this year.
History dictates, though, that they won't be down for very long.
No other English club can match their record of winning.

Oh, and btw, Leicester were at home today.
Not that it really matters.

Wow! For a reasons I don't understand myself, I always like to watch QPR's matches.

After today's against the Red's, I think it's b/c afterwards all the other teams look real good.

2, not 1, but 2 OG's. This was only surpassed by QPR's defenders conserving their energy during play.

P.S. Any one else catch the RC Lens v. PSG match? Now that was fun to watch.

A lot of anti ManCity talk this week, and they have a depleted squad facing QPR, but I think they respond like champions and win this one.

As I predicted in Post #1

What a turn of events in the QPR-ManCity match.
QPR scores twice in about 45 seconds and both are disallowed. The first was way offsides and the second one was an obscure ruling about a "double touch" on a free kick.
City goalie Joe Hart was taking the free kick after the offsides goal and he slipped, tipped the ball with his lead foot and then hit it his with his other foot (which went straight to a QPR player who put it in the net)...but that's a double touch and a City player must be the next man to touch the ball before a QPR player can legally have it.
Makes no sense

That is an obscure rule.
You will wait a long time before seeing that again.
Joe Hart can count himself very lucky to have touched it twice.

I agree that Chelsea should stroll to the title.
They are too solid for anyone else right now.

I wasn't able to watch more than a few minutes of this match.
Chelsea are odds-on to win the title, and rightfully so.

However, if they hit a bad patch, there is one team playing
well enough right now who might get into the race late.
That team? Arsenal.

Currently 50-1 odds to win the Premier League, they can't
afford many slip ups in order to challenge, but their recent
win against Man. City was impressive and well deserved.

Arsenal could just play themselves into the race, should
Chelsea and City hit the skids for a couple of weeks.

You heard it here!

It only seems obscure because it rarely happens. The rule interpretation was 100% correct

I am assuming it was a goal kick which is an indirect free kick

From the Sheffield Rules (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sheffield_Rules)

"The referee (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Referee_%28association_football%29) indicates an indirect free kick by raising his arm above his head until the kick has been taken and ball has touched another player other than the kicker or has gone out of play"

If, when the free kick is taken by the defending team from inside its own penalty area, the ball does not travel directly out of the penalty area:

the kick is retaken
RE:Chelsea- I agree they are the best but harken back to Liverpool last year; the title was theirs to lose which they accomplished easily !!

BTW- Swansea polled a huge road upset vs. Southhampton yesterday and Astom Villa has now gone 10+ hours of league play without a goal. Can you say relegation ?

Missed this post, COTB

You're spot on about the rule.
It's just that it only comes up about once every 10 years.
Even more rare than a foul throw in, which I actually saw called yesterday.
Been years since I've seen that come up, too.

Chelsea have a stranglehold on the title.
City are in and out of form, and while Arsenal and Spurs
are playing very well, they have next to no chance of challenging.

Southampton, Man.Utd., and Liverpool are fighting for fourth place
at best - and that means a lot to them for Euro qualifying next season.
Nothing is impossible, though. Chelsea pick up some injuries,
get some more suspensions like Costa's, they might lose a few games.

They have to self-destruct to lose the PL, and someone has to get hot.
They're approaching the 3/8ths pole about 6 in front.

I haven't studied the relegation situation, yet.
Those lower teams are so Jekyll and Hyde.

Btw, should be a good game between Liverpool and Spurs tomorrow.
Harry Kane has been scoring goals like crazy lately, and Liverpool
are improving - plus Sturridge is healthy again.

Kane is razor sharp, right now.
Has that extra bit of quickness and craft around goal that pays off.

He doesn't quite have the skills of Suarez, but Spurs won't mind.
It's that fraction of a second where you outthink your opponents
that gives you an edge. He's definitely fun to watch.
