9th@Mountaineer: 5.5F F&M Clm5000N1Y ~ purse $8,700 ~ 8/12/14
(Non-winners of a race in 12 months)
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Welcome back to "The Bottom", the lowest time-restricted race that
Mountaineer cards. Two class droppers (One off Layoff + Pvt.Purchase)
are ML Faves in race with little pace on paper.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
1) Everlasting Eve (9/2 ML)- 5YO has closed for share locally in two
off-the-turf races,& had legit excuse in her other try this year. Needs pace.
2) Frequent Reward (10/1)- Pvt. purchase for sharp connections
has disappointed last pair, but race 3 back at this level likely would win it.
3) Fancy Leap (15/1)- 6YO has shown nothing this year off private
purchase, but Jock Quinones scored with similar 55/1 bomb here last night.
4) Do Me A Solid (10/1)- Likely inside speed has had little stick late
this year. Backers should get thrill for half-mile,& hope to hang on late.
6) Mardi's Tough Game (5/2 ML Fave)- 5YO returns off 298-day
layoff + pvt.purchase from 40% trainer w/two works. Not my type of
play. 2013 form towers over field, but This is a tough game.
7) Tennis Braclet (20/1)- 2nd off layoff for 7YO that's 0/17 on fast
dirt, but has a Win & Third in Slop + Mud. Longshot rider named.
8) Starship Quality (3/1)- 5YO drops in class, showed speed in three
sloppy track efforts @Calder in 2012. Should stalk'n pounce. I like!
9) Mindy Michelle (15/1)- 7YO projects as outside speed, but hasn't
won since 9/16/12 (slop@Calder). Stalks 2nd flight, Tri/Super must-use.
10) Helen's Troillie (8/1)- 9YO adds 330Y third off layoff, but was
abysmal here in Mud/Slop Nov/Dec. Last Win 11/6/12 (DH) here.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
EARLY LOOK: Class droppers usually dominate this level, but of the
two entered, i much prefer #8-StarshipQuality over layoff #6-Mardi's
Tough Game. Mardi's 2013 Beyers would crush these, but private
purchase raises serious questions as to what Mare we'll see tonight.
Assuming an off-track (which should hurt #'s 11-3-10), i'm moving
up chances of #7-Tennis Braclet & #9-Mindy Michelle.
#2-Frequent Reward has been awful last pair, but dangerous tandem,
& #4-Do Me A Solid looks like target speed & not a threat to win.
Good Luck to ALL, & See You at Night School!

8th@Mountaineer: 6F F&M Alw25300N3L ~ purse $25,300 ~ 8/12/14
(Fillies & Mares, Never won Three Races)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Two runners step up off impressive wins, Two go Turf-to-Dirt, &
ML Fave draws tricky rail post. Logical contenders all have speed.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
1) Rulelikecleopatra (8/5 ML Fave)- 3YO likely sent from rail,& hope
to either clear Alotta Roar early,or slip outside Roar 2F into race.Contender.
2) More Sweets Here (10/1)- A 220Y cutback going T-2-D for 5YO
that seems overmatched vs. the top 4 here. Solid Jock sticks.
3) I'm A Dixie Diva (15/1)- Last Win July 3rd,2012 here. One-paced
runner could fill Ex/Tri/Super if pace battle erupts.
4) Alotta Roar (4/1)- 5YO roared off bench with career-best effort,
now returns 9 nights later facing more early pace pressure stepping up.
5) Grande Mocha (7/2)- 3YO goes T-2-D cuts back furlong. Stalker
should get right setup, but is 6F optimum distance? Always bet heavily.
6) Box Office Smash (5/2)- 4YO new face can press or stalk, likely
sits just off #1&4 early, forcing Mocha into 2nd flight trip. Steps Up.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
EARLY LOOK: Alotta Roar may not be the most likely winner, buy she
will be the biggest factor in race outcome. Inside/Outside foes must
decide to press or lay off. If both sit off, Roar could repeat. If both
go early, Grande Mocha looks to benefit most. I'll hope inside isn't
the place to be, & use #5-6 in ALL horizontal wagers. Dixie may spice up
Tri/Super,& maybe even exacta if a Duel develops between #'s 1-4-6.
Good Luck to ALL, & see you at Night School!
