He was a fine actor in many roles and I particulary enjoyed the Rockford Files and the Streets of Laredo. Jim Garner received two Purple hearts in the Korean War and he will be missed. R.I.P

Had not realized that he was 86. Like so many actors, we recall them for a particular role or roles. For myself, it was as Bret Maverick and as Hendley in the The Great Escape. For some reason, The Rockford Files never seemed to register with me.

I've been watching reruns of The Rockford Files on Netflix, could have some hokey plot twists but love the LA in the 70s backdrop and Jim was always a Righteous Brother who figured it all out in the end. RIP.

As Maverick, he was just perfect!

Bret and Bart Maverick. The original in the 60's.
That was a show we waited for every week.

James Garner was at his best when his character's insecurities were on display. Like when he couldn't stand everybody else grovelling over the perfection of Lance White on the Rockford Files. :)

I guess a lot of us feel a bit older today.

RIP, Jim.

Loved him. Funny how Mavericks Gun won the 4th at Del Mar on the day of his death.

No matter. Reagan had Donald Regan to tell him what to do or say.

What a classless slug your are, to go dig this up to make a stupid political point in a memorial thread.

You are lower than dirt, dude.

Of course Garner being a democrat did not have anything to do with him disliking Reagan.

His political views had no bearing on him as a actor. He, in his own words, was a 'bleeding heart liberal', but I still loved him as an actor.

Kudos to the conservatives here on this board, and their ability to still acknowledge and appreciate the craft of a man whose politics they vehemently disagree with...you don't see that often...especially from the other side... ;)

I must admit that I was no fan of Bob Hope after he openly supported the Vietnam War. In fact, I really wanted to despise Hope. But I never could. He did too many good things and had so much talent.

You have no clue. Most don't.

Bob Hope never did anything that cost him a dime or didn't make him a dollar.

That goes for the thousands of "charity" golfing events he either hosted,
or played in, throughout the years worldwide.
Always a large appearance fee for the man.

That being said, I admired his comedy.
How could you not?
Razor sharp wit.

Bob Hope may have been trying to make a buck down the road but he did so many shows for troops in war zones - there had to be easier ways to make a buck.

What a vile bunch of lefties here, except Stinky.
Just sitting around waiting to discredit people have done so much for so many people.

Classless dolts.
What, no small animals to torture?

I witnessed Bob Hope doing behind the scenes charity work. In fact he traveled with Gerry Ford and Jack Nicklaus handing out checks and raising money for Children's Hospital. I saw it.

You dispute all the documented evidence to the contrary already presented in this thread?

Loved him in Duel at Diablo..and in romantic comedies from the 60's..in fact, if there were 1 guy I could choose to emulate and resemble, it would probably be James Garner....one super cool and handsome dude...
