Don't understand why anyone would put a pound on Rory. His game comes and goes too often. Tiger ain't winning the Open. I like Kaymer, Rose, and Garcia and the odds are reasonable.

Friend of mine is going to Vegas Wednesday. I sent a wager in on Paul Casey was hoping for more than 60-1 though. Casey is over his injury and his head is also in a better place now. Appreciate the betting lines Man U...I may get more action now.....

Funny you mention Casey.... I'm on another forum and people over there have pounded him for big money... He's definitely on some peoples radars that's for sure.

Bad weather likely there Fri-Sun.
70-80% chance of rain on those days, and that usually means wind as well.

If you happen to know any players that handle wind and rain better than most,
you might want to put a few bucks down at big odds.

Good luck!

*Update: maybe the wind won't be too bad.
Around 10 mph is forecast, with temp @ 70 degrees F

Adam Scott, Justin Rose look like values to me.

On a separate tangent: Has anyone noticed the increasing emphasis on where pros went to college? There seems something almost desperate about the transparent struggle by tv commentators to make golfers relatable to college football (and hoops?) fans.

Give it up boys. Tiger Woods comes along once in a lifetime, and Bubba Watson can't move the needle. Save face and scrap the annoying, ineffective "these guys are goooood" campaign at once.

I'd agree with the selection. If being able to manage the mental aspect of the battle among player, course and weather is the prime factor then Martin and Tiger have got to be the best. Martin gets the node for obvious reasons.

Rory MCIlroy's Dad and three friends put down a £400 with the bookies when he was 15 years old. Should he hold on to his six stroke lead they are each set to cash in for $85,400. LINK (http://ftw.usatoday.com/2014/07/rory-mcilroy-dad-bet-open)

That might be more pressure than actually winning the thing!

Really? I mean the guy is only 25... This will be his third major and he could easily have more if not for melt downs. Rory can win wherever...whenever. If someone gave me acceptable odds on him winning 10 majors.... I would unload as much as I possibly could.

I think its a lot more than that, no? I read he bet 400 pounds(bat $680) at 500 to one so he stands to make about $340,000.00....just read you said "each" so I guess 340,000 is the total? My bad.....

It's sad watching what's happened to Tiger. He used to dominate. Course managers used to " Tiger proof " their courses because of how far he hit it. Now if he hits driver hard hats and protective gear is passed out to spectators. His fellow pros hope he hits driver. If Tom Watson wants to win the Ryder Cup I hope he has the testicular fortitude to not put Tiger on the team. Of course the way sports is run these days NBC wouldn't stand for it. Money rules. Tiger will be there. Euro's win again.....

I find golf on ESPN not to my liking. Part of it is the constant jabber that only irritates me. Tell me something I don't know. Saying things like this is an important putt just fills the air with words and causes me to walk away from the TV.

Zinger tries but it's not my cup of tea.

I guess I have more interest in hearing what those with experience playing competitive golf have to say. Hell, I'd rather listen to the banter from Gary Mccord.

That's a stretch. A T5 and two T2's is good play but a long, long way from winning all three of them. Especially when one of the T2's was nine shots behind the winner. And McIlroy was never in any real danger of losing today.

In my opinion, what's "happened to Tiger" is more a case of what "Tiger has done to himself".

I believe he used PED's and his body is now paying the price.
He will never be the same and my money says he has won his last major.

Yes.

"A spokesperson for British betting firm Ladbrokes confirmed on Sunday afternoon that it had held three bets that will allow Rory McIlroy (http://espn.go.com/golf/player/_/id/3470/rory-mcilroy)'s father Gerry and his friends to make more than $300,000 off his son's victory at Hoylake.

Ladbrokes' Rachel Bridge told ESPN.com that one bet -- believed to be made by McIlroy's father -- was a 200-pound wager ($341) at 500/1 odds placed in 2004 for his son to win within 10 years. That bet will pay out $171,000."

I think Tiger's chances of winning another major are about the same as A Rod's chances of winning a HR title.

Fact:

In 1946 Sam Snead won the British Open.
At the time he received about $600.00 US for the victory.

Playing in the same tournament for the Claret jug this past weekend,
2014 Rory McIlroy earned a cheque of £ 975 000 =$1,318,750.00

He can't hit 3-woods and irons while the young guys are driving it 340. That strategy can't win a major.
