I wonder if they're using the Trackmaster ML service.

David Siegel in reply #8 gave Tioga, Vernon, Monticello, Harrahs Philadelphia and Running Aces. as current users of their Morning Line. I like it, but it is making a difference on my picks. :)

I would think that it can be used as a betting line, to spot overlays.

I believe you're right.

I'm guessing here but that TM line is probably based on TrackMaster Greg and/or the Chatsworth Consortium engine.
Both are good Computer picking programs and the Free selections* are worth checking out..... right after looking at Pandy's Picks, of course :)

Based on the information that Dave showed me, it's pretty sophisticated. Thanks Ray.

Ray I disagree with you as far as Trackmaster Greg and Chatsworth consortium picks are concerned. If you are keen on losing your shirt pay these two guys your 5 bucks for their picks. They provide picks for every known track in the US and Canada.

You can check out their picks at these links.

Chatsworth

Trackmaster Greg

The problem with their picks is they give out picks from race 1 to race 16 if there are 16 races on the card.

The only way you can find out which ones will win is by playing them all and we all know what happens to players who play all races.

The way to beat this game is to stop relying on other peoples picks and to make your own oddsline. If you have made a horse even money and he goes off at 3-1 he is an overlay and a bet. If you have made a horse 5 cents on the dollar and he is going off at 90 cents to a dollar he is a big overlay in my opinion. If he goes off at 10 cents to a dollar, money stays in the pocket.

Just my 2 cents on the subject.

PaceAdvantage is so far the only site I will post to. I so much appreciate the posters staying on-point for racing issues, without gossip. As such, I am very happy to answer questions so no one has to guess about things.

As stated in replies, Chester (Philly) is one of the tracks using our automated morning line. It is not a selection/tout service, and does not use or share any of the same algorithms. It should not be used as a betting line either. It is optimized solely to predict what the public will send horses off at in terms of win odds. It is VERY sophisticated. It uses one of nine equations depending on the size of the track and basic composition of the field (e.g. a field of 2 years old uses different weightings that a field of aged claimers, and a race on a 1/2 mile track uses different weightings than a race on a mile track). The equation(s) use about 45 variables to eventually come up with the line. The lines are always balanced.

Tracks do have the ability to override our lines, but that has rarely occurred based on my measurements (8 times I am aware of, and they performed worse than the original lines in 7 of the 8 instances). As I have said, my only surprise is that more are not using it. I do think that many more will use it in time, as they better understand it.

Feel free to fire any additional questions.

Dave
