Howard Baker, former Senate majority leader from Tennessee, and also White House chief-of-staff under President Reagan, has died at age 88.
He was the first popularly-elected Republican senator from Tennessee since Reconstruction, and the first Republican Senate majority leader in 26 years. He was also the son-in-law of former Republican Senate minority leader Everett Dirksen of Illinois.
As a member of the Senate Select Committee on Presidential Campaign Activities during the Watergate investigation, he was noted for his question, "What did the President know and when did he know it?"
