Bad Spill at Belmont

Not sure of the horses/jockeys involved but in race 8 2 went down and it looked bad, especially for one jockey that a horse fell on, Such a dangerous profession, my prayers are with them.

Irad Ortiz stretchered off. No update on his condition.

The horse he was riding was put down after clipping heels with another.

Tragic.

It bothers me more now that I'm in my 50's than it did when I was in my 30's. Back then, I just shrugged it off as "part of the sport".

Now, it really effects me to my core. For the Jockeys, their families and the poor horses that are hurt or killed, my heart goes out to them.

Just watched the replay, that was ugly and you could tell that Tom Durkin was a bit shook up by his voice. The head-on shot was even more disturbing...uhg. Prayers for all involved.

On a positive note it was nice to see Jose Ortiz received recognition by the Associate Press today. Need more exposure for horse racing in general like this.
