With the big fav out, I'm thinking this should pay about $500.

Apparently, a lot of smart money went against Chrome.

Don't use the win pool to guide your exacta payoffs, separate pools with much different dynamics today.

I thought it paid okay. I had it for $5 on a "saver" ticket, when the 8, 9 and 11 looked best on the track, and I keyed the 8 for the majority of my wagers though he was my second choice on paper.

I was surprised CC was 4/5 - I thought he'd be 1-2. The Pick 3 and Pick 4 payoffs tell you plenty of dough on the 11 on top. So, the 11 on top as the Peter Pan winner (no reach) and an improving Pletcher horse who ran second to him in the Peter Pan adds up to a pretty decent exacta, all things considered.

Though I thought betting against Chrome offered great value for the race, I was surprised at the slow fractions, and the 8 going to the lead. An oddly run race.

It came up short no doubt...should have paid at least $100 more than it did...I was pretty shocked Tonalist went off that short...then again, I can't handicap my way out of a paper bag these days...

The 1-2 finishers were coming out of the same form race and it was the main alternative form line to the Derby horses

If the Tonalist form line was stronger than the Derby form line then there was a chance that Commissioner was also better than the Derby horses

So pairing up Tonalist and Commissioner together in an exacta was fairly logical if you preferred the Tonalist form to the Derby form

Exactas always come up light in this scenario. It's exactly as you say. If you like the one, you'll like the others from the same race(s). They always pay light.

The exacta was 17 or 18 times the win price.......if they run this race 100 times with the winner winning all 100 times, does the 2nd place horse finish 2nd 5 or 6 times out of 100? If he does, this is a fair price. If he only was expected to finish 2nd 3 out of 100, its a little light.
