Stolen bikes halt Druid Hill Park’s “Ride Around” program | Baltimore Brew (https://www.baltimorebrew.com/2014/05/29/stolen-bikes-halt-druid-hill-parks-ride-around-program/)

Those damn Irish-Polish-Italians in that area about 3 miles from Pimlico. Some head up his butt lib puts out 40+ bicycles for people to ride around the reservoir and what do you know, within hours all the bikes are stolen.

We need one of our database guys to run a query on Irish-Polish-Italians and bike theft...a very specific subset for sure, maybe it's a profitable angle.
:D

On the other hand - what a dumb idea this was

Do they know who stole the bikes? Should the reporter speculate on the ethnicity of the thieves?

In post-World War II Valmelaina, Rome, Antonio Ricci (Lamberto Maggiorani) is desperate for work to support his wife Maria (Lianella Carell), his son Bruno (Enzo Staiola), and his small baby. He is offered a position posting advertising bills but tells Maria that he cannot accept because the job requires a bicycle.

More about the plot and the movie at the link.

You would have to know the area- what I said was tongue in cheek- this is a predominantly black area- make that 100%. Still LMAO

Very odd that the bikes are just that easy to take. Most borrow-bike access that I've seen you have to swipe a credit card to get a bike. They charge until you return by the hour.

If it's totally free and you are just handed a bike, I can see how you'd really have to realize that theft is going to result.

In this economy? It's like; "Hey, Mikey, you wanna buy a bike I just got for 25 bucks? I got 39 more of them so lemme know if you know anybody that needs a bike for cheap, kay? I gotta' get rid of em fast so the price is right."

If the reporter really knew his stuff, he'd go straight to the chase and blame that racist, Donald Sterling!

Thanks for the post- yes, a better article. The funny thing is that the program had been going on in 2 other parts of the city with no problems. However when it is rolled out in the Druid Hill area yhe problems begin. One would have to know the city to understand.
