You beat me to it - was about to post the same.
$5K claimers, and the two left in the race were the longest odds on the M/L.
$17K purse.....the connections are licking their chops.

Nothing like a good match race.......

If this were a sports bet, the odds would be -1.05 on each side offshore, or -1.10 in Las Vegas. Instead it's currently -11.00 on #6, or +1.80 on #4.
Sports betting wouldn't last a week fighting a takeout like that.

A two horse race really magnifies the take out. Man, that's ugly.

With all the talk of a boycott, this, not a boycott, is the reason I've yet to play Churchill this year. Every day that I have an opening for a third track to play, I scan their entries and see five and six horse fields in their first four or five races. And this is before scratches.

Only if you bet it.

And to think that the takeout increase was done to increase purses, which would in turn attract more horses...if not for the takeout increase this might be a 1 horse race.

The higher odds of the two wins at 3-5........priceless

What does 3-5 and 1-2 add up to percentage wise? 130%?

Battaglia could be out of a job soon.
They need Jon White making their M/L at CD.

i have a question....Can anyone offer a clue as to why CD did not declare this a non betting race?

If I was playing Churchill today, I would have declared it a non-betting race. That is good enough. I don't think race tracks should necessarily try to protect the bettors from themselves. If someone wants to bet it, let them bet it.

Protecting the public is first on their list. :D

There were incidents at Meadowlands where scratches or other issues created situation where the track management ( judges) would declare the race a non betting event.
I don't do conspiracy theories. Never watched the "X- Files" either.

It's the first race. So it's not going to affect very many important exotic wagers, right?

People can bet on it if they want to and ignore it if they don't.

SA just ran a 3 horse race.
Great Holiday cards....2 horse race, 3 horse race, turf sprints instead of the Met

I think the "new fans" the powers that be are trying to attract are Mad Scientist!

What does this have to do with a conspiracy theory? Just pointing out that they don't put the public first.

i think the fact that horse gamblers would bet $17000 into a two horse race win pool, with the 18% take out speaks volumes why the powers that be have no respect for horse bettors.

The question that needs to be ultimately asked and answered is "should the tracks themselves look out for the welfare of the unwashed".

Or, is it ok to try and money grab every penny you can as soon as you can with no regard to "cultivating" a new customer base?
