They are expecting 3-5 inches of rain by tomorrow night in Baltimore, and there is a flood watch alert. It looks like a lot of turf races will go to the dirt (which may well be mud), and hoping CC likes a wet track. He is no worse off then the others though...they haven't run on a wet/sloppy track either. Maybe by some miracle they will get it pretty well dried out by Sat.

wouldn't be surprised if we're looking at one of those drying out tracks on Saturday that is a bit on the heavy side. If so, then stamina and who can handle it comes into play.

I thought it meant the "flood" of money going in from POT and WBW!

Current forecast is for the rain to be ending by early-mid afternoon on Friday, allowing 24+ hours of drying time.

Early Saturday races could be playing differently than later in the card, but it should be fast by late in the day.

Anyone know from past conditions how fast Pimlico dries out?

Pimlico have one of the best "drying out dirt surfaces" in North America and arguably one of the best maintenance crews of any NA track.

That's going to change the rail, which was said to be deep until now.

In anticipation of bad weather, track maintenance moves dirt up, away from the rail, so as not to lose the expensive top layer. Rail should be a lot faster as a result.

Absolute deluge. It didn't start raining until sometime after I went to sleep around 1am, but a hell of a lot of rain has fallen btw then and now (it's 7:15am).
Still a light and steady rain falling - the infield today and tomorrow will be a mess...slide slide slippity slide.

No way they stay on turf today, even for the two Stks races.

rain is ending in Baltimore now. 30 hours until the Preakness is a lot of time.

Agreed.

weather.com says rain this afternoon, which will end by 3-4pm ET.
After that, it's dry through Saturday.

The track should be fast by Preakness post time

As mentioned, looks like an inside bias today.

Check out races 3 and 4. The rider on the #3 in race 3 has a nice rail trip most of the way and wins the stretch duel (then strangely gives away the race). The rider on the #9 in race 4 looks beaten, but the harder inside ground brings him the win in the stretch after all. In race 2, the #7 wins and has the inside trip in the stretch (but as big favorite is expected to win).

Anyway. Inside bias so far.

I would have to give that distinction to Woodbine.

Hands down.
Turf or poly, best track out there.

The turf racing kicks off next weekend, and the course has never looked better.

A few are still scheduled to remain on the turf.
