Tommy John is the result of the exact opposite. So many pitchers these days are getting TJ because they went their entire amateur career with pitch counts and were never allowed to go longer than X amount of innings. So when they get to the pros and start reaching pitch counts that they have ever never reached before. Their arms aren't used to that type of work and aren't strong enough to uphold their velocity.
