On this date in 1973 Johnny Bench hit 3 home runs off Carleton in a 9-7 win over the Phillies.

Pete Rose went 4 for 5 also......and scored 4 times

Many don't know it but Bench had a serious injury half way through his career, having half of his lung removed. This hurt his production and cut his playing days short.

He was the quarterback of the Big Red Machine......calling some great games over the years....... :ThmbUp:

Reds vs Giants, and this 11yr old boy was a huge Cincy fan attending his first Reds game ever.
Dad let me go down by the dugout before the game to beg for autographs with all the other kids.
Bench pulls out a bat, signs it, and gives it to the kid right next to me.
