Union Rags had an incredible amount of hype for his resume. I'll never forget it.

Who was the last california horse to win the derby? And was he training on dirt or used carpet fibers?

California bred or California based? For the former, the last was Decidedly in 1962. For the latter, you have to go all the way to 2012.

I was not a fan at all, I bet out against him w/ Take Charge Indy, but Union Rags was a multiple stakes winner, a Grade 1 winner and was arguably best in the Juvy that year.

Dollar Bill is my benchmark for hype, at least in the internet era. It seems to me Bill was one of the first to have a web fanpage, maybe his common sounding name appealed, but he sure had a lot of support that exceeded his accomplishments. :)

I'm doing my best to use social media to amp the buzz. Everywhere I go online, I'm telling non-fans about the emerging horse of this century. :D

I've had only one person reply "so what", and s/he got the "well, wait until late May when you're the only American that hasn't heard about California Chrome" treatment.

Sure, we all know what might happen, but there is no downside to having some fun with this.
