I want to ditch my gmail acct. But I have a lot of stuff on Google drive and don't want to have to upload it all over again Is there anyway to hang on to it?

What's the harm in keeping it? Just because you have a google e mail doesn't mean you have to use it.

Good point.
No telling how many email accounts I have abandoned over the years.
Just never check them any longer. Must be thousands of spam messages left unread.

Send an email to the old addresses once every few months or so. Then when Google or whomever wants to offer some more free space, you get included. I did this with a hotmail accountant a few years back and they included me in a free 25 gig storage promotion for sky drive. I hadn't used the account for years
25 gig free is very nice
