View Full Version : Overmanaging

One of my pet peeves in baseball is the guy who has to overmanage. Constantly bringing in relievers for 1 hitter. Anyone who saw the Boston-White Sox game last night saw it first hand, and saw how it bit Ventura right in the ass. First off, Ventura replaced Danks to start the 7th. He brought in a guy named Belisario, who came into the game w/an ERA of over 10. But Belisario's stuff was absolutely electric last night. Great tailing action on his fastball. He went 1 inning and was promptly replaced. No reason he couldn't have stayed in the game for another inning. The Sox ended up going thru 4 relievers to get the next 3 outs. Two relievers faced one hitter each, another faced 2, and the fourth faced 3. No big deal, right? It is if the game goes extras and you run out of pitchers. And that's what happened as they had to bring in second baseman Garcia to pitch in the 14th, and Boston tagged him for a couple runs.
