Some of our friends and family members in London are looking to bet a few pounds on this big race tomorrow. Does anyone have a good opinion?
Thanks in advance,

I personally don't like the event. I know horse racing is dangerous to both rider and animal, but this seems like too much needless danger.

PETA, alive and well in the Great White North.

Lot's of folks back in the motherland of England don't share your opinion. Yeah, it's dangerous, but so is crossing the street.

How can a horseplayer not like a 40 horse field where the chalk is 10-1?

If they watch previous runnings, pick a color, number, jockey or name & just enjoy a great spectacle!

A few years ago the "great spectacle" was watching a few deceased horses under a tarp while the rest of the field ran past them.
I love racing just like the next guy, but this particular race is just brutal.

I heard they lowered the fences as a result of the death marred race a few years back...is this true?

Yes, some of the early fences were lowered and beechers were lowered and the dropoff on landing reduced. I think these changes have made things worse as now the field is running must faster early on, and more horses are completing the first circuit (everyone made it over Beechers last year, a first I believe).

And as for picks, Burton Port (17-1), Quito De La Rogue (40-1) and Tidal Bay (20-1) will get my money.

A stupendous race, one of the great sporting events of history!!!

I love this race. Lets hope those 9-12 year olds keep winning this thing!

Don't you wish we had Flat Racehorses enjoying sport this long?

I'm playing #5 Rocky Creek (16-1) each way. Like the company he keeps.

That truly is the biggest upside to National Hunt racing in UK/Ireland.
Your favorite horses come back year after year.
You see most of them racing at their peak for at least 4-5 years.

Not like top flat horses that you're lucky to see for a couple of years.

Restart? Wow!

40 horse field, 4+ miles, and not a fair start. :)

Put a few bob on :14: each way, with a small exacta box 2-7-14-24.

:15: doesn't start.

Crazy. See how it goes in 10 mins.

Amazing race - last horse standing, indeed.

Errgh. If you liked the winner, you got hosed here - the field only 3-1 in the North American pool, while the 29 horses was 25-1 over in Merry Old England.

The :7: horse ran well early as a tease, and then the :14: couldn't quite stay up there when the running got serious, so missed out on my saver exacta.

All horses and riders reported as healthy after the race.
That is normally the case, but it's always a relief when it happens.

A great spectacle put on by a special type of horse.

On HPI, there was no field, all 40 were available individually and paid 65.70.

40 horses started

18 completed with a rider

Is there great prestige to riding the winner of this race? It looks like playing russian roulette to me.

IS there a great prestige for US jockey to riding a Kentucky Derby winner?

AP McCoy rode his first Grand National winner a couple of years ago. He is the greatest jump jockey the world has ever known. He has been champion jockey 18 times, won every big race a jump jockey could, broke, rebroke, and broke again about every record regarding winners, money won etc.
Yet he had never rode the winner of a Grand National until 2010.
He cried after he won the race.
This is one of the toughest mother****ers you will ever meet... he has broke every bone in his body multiple times. He is held together with screws and baling wire.
He cried after winning the race.
