He knew the backup shortstop was worth 4 cents. He made millions betting all over the country...

I'm still going to look to fade Sabathia for awhile. I think he's clearly on the downside. He'll probably have a few good starts. But the weight loss appears to clearly have hurt his velocity. Another one worth watching is Greinke. He had a minor issue and didn't fly with the Dodgers to Australia, came back and made 2 starts. But in the recent start on Sunday, he was breezing along then appeared to be grimacing in pain during the 6th inning. The Giants ended up going deep twice on him that inning and that was it for his outing. Maybe it was nothing, and it could be not enough to make him miss a start. But it could be enough to effect his performance in his next start.

Nice call. Winner before the 3rd inning was over.

I wonder if the PEDs are back. We saw a tremendous number of unders last summer, and the speculation was players were scared after the A-Rod and Braun suspensions and got off the PEDs and the scoring really suffered. Even though its still cold in many parks and early season usually favors the pitchers, scoring is back.

Arizona/San Francisco Over 7.5

Two veteran starters who's best days are behind them (Lincecum and Arroyo). Arroyo only made 2 starts in spring training, and didn't even last 5 full innings in his 2014 debut so that means the D-Back bullpen, which hasn't been good. I think Lincecum's days of dominance are long gone. He may win some games but now he's more of an innings eater who will be around 4.50 ERA, instead of 3.00. Offensively, looks like Belt is getting things figured out.

Thanks. Supposedly death and taxes are the only sure things in life. But I'm going to add a third: Paul Goldschmidt OWNS Lincecum. Hit his 7th HR off Lil Timmy last night.

The Giants also have been hitting good so far this season. Belt looks like he's become a big time player.

Love Pirates/Cubs OVER 7.5 (even money)

On paper, looks like 2 solid starters going, and its getaway day, which historically can mean "speed up the game". Pirates can bus up to Milwaukee, and Cubs will have a short flight to St. Louis so I don't expect the umps to go out of their way to speed things up.

The wind is at around 10 MPH, blowing from the south/southwest. That means straight out. We saw the Pirates hit 5 solo homers last night (and amazingly, still lost despite the 5 HRs). Travis Wood is a flyball pitcher so that doesn't bode well for him. Also, both starting pitchers are capable at bat. Wood has 24 hits and 4 home runs in the past 2 seasons and Cole is capable at the plate. I don't think that's reflected in the number.

At LVH and a few other places. But not at the biggest place. The Braves have hit the ball better the past few games but still only 20th in runs scored. Atlanta has had a few hitters off to really bad starts.

And it doesn't hurt that St. Louis hitters have big numbers vs Wood.

I haven't. I don't think I've bet a Padres game yet. But thanks for pointing it out; I'm seeing 6 overs 21 unders and 2 pushes. They are just coming off a long road trip but their home park is tough to score runs in.

Going to take the Nats +103. Cliff Lee is one of the top pitchers in the game but Nats hitters hit him hard. Nat hitters have 235 ABs vs Lee. 16 doubles and 13 home runs. .277 BA/ .528 SP/ .824 OPS. Those are pretty strong hitting numbers against one of the games' top hurlers.

Should never bet a game under w/a total of under 7. A bad bullpen like Arizona can send any game over the total. I won't be making that same mistake this season.

I like one total today: LaD/Wash Over 7.

Its at 7 with the under -125 so it could even hit 6.5. I'm going to hold off and wait on it, even though there's many reasons to like the over here. The total is low because Kershaw is pitching. But Kershaw is making his first post-DL start so look for a limited pitch count. The Nats starter, Treinen, has pitched in relief in 3 games so this is his first start. In the minors in 2012-2013, he gave up more hits than innings pitched and that wasn't against Hanley Ramirez. Both teams had to pull their starters early last night due to a 3 hour plus rain delay so both bullpens had to pitch 5 innings last night and may not be completely sharp.

I think a good rule of thumb for this season is NEVER, under any circumstances, take the Cubs as a favorite. There will be some times to use them as a big dog but they and Houston cannot be trusted as a favorite.

I'll take the win on the LA/Wash total even though my reasoning was wrong. Kershaw was limited to 89 pitches but that was enough for him to throw 7 shutout innings. And the rookie gave up no earned runs in 5 innings. A win like this makes up for one of the tough beats.

Cubs/White Sox OVER 8- anyone who watched the last 2 games at Wrigley knows it was extremely difficult to generate offense in the cold with wind blowing in strongly. Big change in weather. Instead of 45 degrees, it could be upper 70s and winds from the south/southwest will turn the Cell into a launching pad.

They've been unreal. Tulowitzki is batting over .600 at home. Not slugging; not OPS, that's a batting average. :eek:

They must've stopped the humidor because we are back to seeing big variances in home/road batting splits.

Big difference getting away from 40 degree weather with the wind blowing in as it was much more hitter friendly at The Cell. Look for more of the same today. Cubs/Sox OVER 9. Its a lot warmer today and wind is gusting so its just a matter of the Cubs not being too stupid and swinging at too many bad pitches. The Sox should be good for 6-7. Big difference getting away from 40 degree weather with the wind blowing in as it was much more hitter friendly at The Cell. Look for more of the same today. Cubs/Sox OVER 9. Its a lot warmer today and wind is gusting so its just a matter of the Cubs not being too stupid and swinging at too many bad pitches. The Sox should be good for 6-7. Gonna take a day off. Been cold the past few days. Tanaka hadn't lost since 2012. Who'd think the Cubs would be the team to end his streak? Although it should be pointed out, even though they are in a different league, the Cubs are the first team to face Tanaka a second time. It will be interesting to see how teams adjust. So many of his cutters end up low or out of the strike zone. Teams are going to have to be more patient, and take more pitches.

An unproven starting pitcher for the Dominican Blue Jays, as well as a red hot Jays offence, doesn't seem ideal to me, mind you Archer is 2-0 with a 2.01 ERA in 4 career starts against the blue-birds. The Jays defence looked shaky last night, lets hope that doesn't continue.

Having said all that, I'm going Over 7 1/2 in the Angels-Braves game. Atlanta hits lefties much better than they hit righties (.286 to .236). In the numbers I use for starters (total bases plus walks divided by innings), both Minor and Santiago have struggled. Both bullpens a bit used after 13 innings last night. Angels bullpen not good even when rested.
