I don't know about you but I'm ready for fields that are full + quality. Weather for this weekend looks great! UK plays in the Final Four on Saturday... Lexington is going to be a zoo

88 horses in 10 races, not exactly being supported this year, not sure where the horses are at?

Short fields Florida, NY and now a premier meet, not looking good for many of these smaller east coast tracks.

Several connections planning to stay at Gulfstream in April before shifting to Belmont or Monmouth in May?

Looking forward to Keeneland.....if I recall...a handicapper has to pay particular attention to trainers Maker, McPeek, Graham Motion, Shug, Lopresti and Ward. ***Jockeys named Rosario, Leparoux, Castellano, Prado, Napravnik and Garcia tend to dominate. Tough to win from the very far outside in all route races over a mile.... and outside is no real disdavantage in the Sprints. At least a work over the poly is necessary for any of my key singles. Will have to refresh my memory before Friday. Any input of the track nuance from the good people here at PA is welcome "pay your money and take your chances...." Good luck!

looked at friday's entry's. no 2 year old race. the card had short fields and bad races for their opening day.

Well, Gulfstream's excusable, considering they are engaged in a fight to the death with Calder.

But anyway, the field size is down rather significantly from last year, when they got 105 to the box. At least there's no 2yo races (and only four written for the whole meet).

Declining foal crop. 12-13k fewer horses per year than even 6 or 7 years ago. Today's 2, 3, and 4 year old crops are from a combined pool of what, 75k horses?

Yesterday's 10 horse field is going to be today's 7 horse field. It's simple math. Sad.

I am ready for them to go back to dirt. But I will enjoy the turf races.

Wesley Ward is probably going to win the training tittle there this year even if there are no 2 year races at all.

so far he has the only 2 year olds that have worked at Keeneland. if the races don't go there he is going to have to send them somewhere else. his only weakness at the 2 year old game has been training over the synthetic and running on dirt.

i am sure they will have a few 2 year old races there this meet, but nothing like they did in years past.

I am sure there will be plenty of baby races this Spring.

Keeneland? Gave up on the plastic main track some time ago. Turf okay for very carefully selected spot plays. Fail to see why this place generates so much excitement. Focus this weekend will be elsewhere.

i suggest you take a look at equibase workout reports. there haven't been that many since March 22 and most of the 2 year olds that worked were Wesley Wards.

i remember years when there were 20 2 year old races. the very first race of the meet was always a 2 year old and the race was full. one year they had 2 on the same day.

i doubt if there will be 7 for the whole meet, and most of those might take place the last week.

I would bet a lot of money there weren't 20 2YO races at Keeneland during the Spring meet over, at least, the last 25 years.

I doubt their condition book has varied that much over the years.

I will have a long look at their turf races, but will pass those on poly, since I clearly have no clue how to handicap over that stuff.

Yeah, I won't be missing them. Betting 2yos at this time of the year is a total crapshoot.

And I lied in an earlier post- there's eight written for this year. Four for fillies and four for males. Would be interesting to see if anyone has stats comparing that to previous years.

I agree there has never been 20 in a year. Ten is the high by my database, about 8 is the normal, it is only a 15 day meeting, and I have never seen more than one a day.

You guys are right about not having many, but I'm almost certain I've seen an occasion or two with more than one on day. I'd bet money on it. Of course, I've lost a lot of bets, I'm a horseplayer.

Those kind of races scream out for Presque Isle Downs invaders! Rice/Cox duo usually bring in a few bombs during the meet. They have an entry in the 1st and 3rd races on opening day.

If they can't make a cut out, they could use one of those old Bartles and James ones from 20 year ago. Him and son look quite a bit like those guys!

Check out the quality of Race #5 Saturday for an Allowance race.

90 horses entered in 10 races Saturday... not terrible.

I mulled the idea of going to KL for the opener.

Decided to stay with Beulah for the last month since it's closing permanently Derby Day. Plus as mentioned, Lex is probably going to be a Zoo.

I'll get to KL soon enough. Saratoga is my big hit for the season. Can't wait for June - Especially after the hellacious Winter we went through, eh?

Think Turf will be off? And if so how many will scratch you think?

Keenland got over an inch of rain today and more is on the way tomorrow morning. I would assume that the only race that may stay on the grass will be the feature but rain is also expected in the afternoon. Scratches will produce 7-8 horse fields in the other grass races.

That angle works better for the fall meet when the horses have raced recently at Presque. But now, going back to dirt, it may not work at all.

I looked at the entries for Wednesday and Thursday, 2 grass races on wednesday and none on thursday. I dont understand why they baby a grass course for a 3 week meet.

Ray Paulick notes Keeneland handle:

First 8 days of the meet, $68,754,345, down 9.6% from $76,083,401 in 2013. Runners down 7.0%, same number races.
