On ``60 Minutes'' last night, author Michael Lewis made a bland assertion: High-frequency traders, he said, working with U.S. stock exchanges and big banks, have rigged the markets in their own favor. The only surprising thing about Lewis’s assertion was that anyone could be even remotely surprised by it.

I found the first so many paragraphs provocative. But, read the entire piece before responding.

Now that 60 minutes has weighed in the subject, there will quite bit more interest in how to copy the high speed traders that in trying to stop them.

If you can co-locate equipment, and, lay $100's of millions of dollars worth of fiber optic cable, and, come up with the algorithms on your computer, and, get access to the trading clearinghouse system, then, sure, you can copy the HFT traders.
