It will be interesting to see the speed figures assigned to these races. I think one would have to project a number for the Arkansas Derby, as was already mentioned in another thread, the track was definitely changing throughout the day. It started very sloppy but by Arky Derby time, the track was probably closer to good, or at worst, muddy.
Visually I was most impressed by Tapit. I picked him up on the far turn and he seemed to be doing it all on his own. I hated The Cliffs Edge going into the Blue Grass but a look at the charts shows the Blue Grass was probably the fastest of the 3 preps. The Wood was run in 1:49 3/5, the Blue Grass in 1:49 2/5 and the Arkansas Derby in 1:49 2/5.
The 7f races at both Aqu and Kee are solid evidence the track was definitely faster at Aqu: The Carter was run in 1:20 1/5, The Bay Shore in 1:20 3/5 and Clever Electrician's NW1X in 1:21 3/5. At Kee, Lion Tamer won the Gr 2 Commonwealth in 1:23.14. The races at the other distances further support that hypothesis.
The big gap from Lion Heart back to Limehouse further solidifies the belief that he and The Cliffs Edge will have the top figs from Saturday. Given The Cliffs Edge record at CD and the fact his trainer has won the race twice before, he may very well end up favored.
