Well, if you want to get really small-minded about it, the Dems actually lost the election. But according to Debbie Watercarrier Schultz, aka Dr. Spin, the GOP really got spanked.

Republican David Jolly won the special election to fill the House seat left vacant by the death of his former boss, Rep. C.W. Bill Young (R-Fla.).

With nearly all of the votes counted Tuesday night, Jolly had 48.5 percent of the vote to Alex Sink’s 46.7 percent. Libertarian Lucas Overby had 4.8 percent.

Sink lost the 2010 governor’s race to Rick Scott. The Democratic Party sunk extensive ad funding into the congressional battle, and DNC chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-Fla.) tried to paint the loss as a positive.

“Republican special interest groups poured in millions to hold onto a Republican congressional district that they’ve comfortably held for nearly 60 years. Tonight, Republicans fell short of their normal margin in this district because the agenda they are offering voters has a singular focus – that a majority of voters oppose – repealing the Affordable Care Act that would return us to the same old broken health care system,” Wasserman Schultz said in a DNC rapid response statement.

“While tonight Democrats didn’t win, we are proud of Alex and the race she ran based on a vision of opportunity for all and an agenda that would grow the middle class and protect Florida’s families,” she said.

Always fun to hear from Ditzy Debbie. She has been relatively quiet since the election, but nice to once again get a laugh from this off-the-reservation loon, considered so crazy that even other Dimicrats keep their distance from her.

Winning would have been better, but here are some facts about Florida's 13th.
Republicans have held the seat for sixty years. In 2012 Republican Bill Young won the seat by a 15.2% margin. Republicans spent millions to hold onto the seat this year. In spite of all that Alex Sink lost by only 1.8%.

Obama won the district in 2012. The Dems spent millions trying to win the seat, including millions in out of state money. A Libertarian Party candidate took 5% of the votes, the vast majority of which would have gone to the Republican in an election that was a referendum on ObamaCare.

So the net result is that the Republicans won. Get over it.

Typical libs. They spend record millions on this election because it was thought to be very important. then when thy lose, it was no big deal!

mostie, 1.8%, 18%, in the works of Hilary.....what difference does it make anyway? You lose, you go home.

Her downfall was when questioned on how to fix No-Care, she had nothing.

Do you bet on horses that lost 30 times in a row? Me neither.

If this is a great and significant figure for the GOP, you guys are looking too hard for a reason to celebrate.

the guy that won the race couldn't be elected dog catcher in any area that doesn't have a transient population.

if the democrats lost that election last night to that guy, they will lose a lot more to semi-legit candidates.

You got it. The GOP candidate was an unknown, a one-time staffer for the previous Republican in that district, and is a former DC lobbyist, a profession less trusted by the public than politicians.

The Dem was nearly elected governor, had state-wide name recognition, and carried that district when she ran for governor.

Some other points to consider:

The Washington DC GOP establishment never supported Jolly. He defeated an establishment Republican in a hard-fought three-way primary. The GOP today are taking bows, but they preferred he would have lost, in my opinion. He basically won despite campaigning on a shoe string.

There was some question about the Libertarian party candidate who won about 5 per cent of the vote. The great Rand Paul endorsed Jolly and not the Libertarian candidate. This says alot about the bonafides of the Libertarian candidate and to the class and quality of Rand Paul.

National Democratic money did pour into the race for Alex Sink, the now former poster girl for far left wing idiocy. Even the world-reknown sex offender, Bill Clinton, campaigned for her in Florida.

Sink didn't even live in the district coming from just north of Pinellas County.

Another shady attempt by the Democrats to disenfranchise Floridian citizens and patriots.

All was for naught as illegal immigration/amnesty, the ACA, pink-line artist Obama, the left wing, Democrat Party, Clinton, and even GOP establishment jerk-offs, all were beaten by Jolly and by the people.

You won an off year house seat. Congrats! Now you have to win it all over again in the fall.
The real story is how much money was spent by both sides. The new spending begins today. It is getting crazy out there.

This is a HUGE problem...all the $$ pouring in from fat cats and special interests. No wonder our gov't is so paralyzed.

BTW, as a Centrist, I take this special election to have the following meaning for Dems: NONE. For Repubs: NONE. These elections have as much to do with local issues as anything else.

I do not believe 'money' -- raised and spent -- will be the issue this year in particular.

Of course, the big media will always talk about the money issue, especially those outlets like ABC, NBC, CNN, MSNBC that wish to distract the electorate from the real issues of the Campaign of 2014.

The real issues come November will be (1) Obama Care; (2) immigration reform; (3) repudiation of the socialist, anti-American agenda by Obama and the Democrat Party, and, (4) a general and broader anti-incumbent fervor.

The good citizens and patriots of the USA will get their country back and it started with the Jolly upset win in Florida.

On Megan Kelly's show last night, Brent Bozell said that on one of the networks the past two nights they had covered the Florida election and said Obama Care was the absolute main issue. He said that if Alex Sink had won that network would have said it was a mandate for Obama Care.

Since Sink (and especially, Bill Clinton) lost, that network dedicated not a single second to the Folly victory, and of course, never mentioned it was an anti-Obama Care mandate.

These elections have as much to do with local issues as anything else.

Some do, this one didn't. There were millions of dollars from out of state on both sides. Neither candidate was local. The Dem was a previous state wide candidate that didn't even live in the district. The Rep was a DC lobbyist and Congressional staffer for the previous local guy. Bill Clinton came in to campaign for the Dem, obviously not a local issue. This one was about Obamacare.

Fair enough, but from this... it sounds then like picking the lesser of two evils (hardly a bellweather of anything).

From afar, it appears that the candidate were of no consequence. The election was an arena for a battle of national issues and outside money.

Please, someone help me here.

Am I to understand that the democrats lost but called it a win because their candidate was close? Is that what is being said?

If I have it wrong, please straighten me out.

Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-Fla.) is the chair of the Democratic National Committee. She is claiming a moral victory because that district has voted strongly Republican for many years, and her candidate only lost by about 2%.

The district voted Republican for this House seat because of the guy who had the office for many year, recently deceased. Obama won the district at the national level in 2008 and 2012. The Dem in the race won the district when she ran for governor a few years ago.

Two days before the election, the Dem candidate had a good lead in the polls. Debbie says they lost because of a lot of GOP money, but it is undeniable that the Dems spent millions of dollars out of state money. So it is all just about spin.

Politicians have been doing this forever. I thought that was the reason why they were elected. Apparently, we like it because we keep electing them.

If libs ran the tracks.....

1 We would all bet every race.
2 Anyone without money to bet would be given a free voucher.
3 After the race is declared official, all money wagered will be refunded.
4 Everyone gets an equal refund, no matter how much they bet.
5 Anyone who hits the pic 6 gets no refund, as they must be rich to begin with.
