If I remember correctly, Jesse Jackson and Jeremiah Wright, Obama's non-minister for 20 years, have been involved in the issue.

So I lived in a house for two years literally a block from that vacant lot. I was over at that house visiting my old roommates as they were having a party this past weekend and every one of the people in the neighborhood I talked to at that party are absolutely incensed about that group scaring off Trader Joes.

It was literally a tiny group of shake down artists who created enough of a stink that TJ's said "well you don't want us here, we won't be here". The unsilent majority won. Really sad because it's a neighborhood of really great people and as far as grocery store options there's a single Safeway that we used to call the UnSafeWay

And not one word about One 57 or any public assisted housing in that colossus.

The irony is that Trader Joe's would be an immediate benefit to current residents in the area. Contrary to its yuppie image, TJs is high competitive and sells quality meat, produce and other products. On a lot of basic, generic foods like coffee and cereal, TJs has better quality at lower prices than WalMart. Those "community leaders" are using their own people as pawns in a power game.

I guess this does not count in Spike Lees world. I have actually met him several times when he was making one of his crappy movies "Son of Sam" in my old neighborhood. Never gave the impression of being anti anything. What a jerk he has made of himself.

Spike Lee grew up in an Italian neighborhood in Brooklyn. His was the only black family in that section at the time. The name escapes me but he did not come from Ft.Greene or some ghetto or high crime area. I guess it was okay for his family to move into an area but not whites doing the same. Hypocritical in my view as well as racist.
