Imagine.....
a woman who was once considered to be one of the seven wonders of the world who ended up becoming married to a man who treated her.....
like a servant
who took all her money
constantly demeaned and threatened to kill her
constantly beat her
gave her no responsibility
isolated her
...and this man did it to her for 30+ years and she stayed, out of fear!
Then a foreign stranger appears who liberates her, arrests her husband, gives her FREEDOM, and she knows not what to do with it; doesn't even remember the meaning of the word!
So she panics, and is attracted by a similar man who treats her in a similar fashion, because that is what she knows, has become used to, and in some kind of illogical way, is comfortable with that.
