What the numbers mean: Second race after a bump up in class continues to be a prime indicator of improvement--regardless of other form factors used. In pace races, 64.36% of the winners ran for a lower purse in their second race back. In trot races, 71.33% of the winners ran for a lower purse in their second race back.

And to answer the question, "Why do so many bettors prefer Pompano Park (aside from the fact that it doesn't snow in Broward County)?" it is that the other bettors seem intent on chasing rainbows using the same worn out, tired, dysfunctional strategies that used to work--kind of--back in the old days.

Entries that gained (position or lengths) in the stretch in their last race AND finished in a time better than either of their previous two races AND had a top driver (or top trainer, as the case may be above) in todays race did not do well.

All of which is to point out something in conjunction with the class moves noted previously. If you want to find out what separates the whales from the nibbling little minnows, look beyond the obvious. The "second race after moving up" is nice by itself. Factor in something that many bettors find distressing--a loss in the stretch in the last race, especially finishing way back--and it may be quite rewarding. Especially at Pompano Park.
