Andy is a great guy, as well as a great handicapper. Last year, had no idea how to find his picks online. A friend from Bloodhorse gave me Andy's e.mail, and I wrote him. Andy was kind enough to get right back to me and provide the info on where to find his picks for Saratoga. He is a great handicapper, and all around good guy. I'm so happy for him.

"ditto" the pat on the back sir.....in my humble opinion the TV production group is lucky to have your insight on the program Andy. Not always right...but always trying..... FTL

Putting your picks out there to wider audience is always risky. I am sure he will sound smart as he always does. I hope he picks the winners. If he does, it might change the way the networks broadcast horse racing.

I would like to throw my hat in the ring to be your agent. I've got a few ideas to get your career moving . Drag racing arrest -popular with the kids. Date a Kardashian- careful every one of those girls could post you up and hurt you. And of course leaked homemade sex tape. While you are over there at Fox could you tell that gal that Santa Claus is not white or black but is actually a roan.

I actually sort of agree with what I think it is that he's trying to say...

I'm sure Hammerin' Hank and Rice and Battaglia are all fine handicappers, but they (meaning the deciders of such things) never really used the format to promote any sort of real handicapping motif at all. Just poll the half-dozen on-air people for the horse that they like and a two or three sentence rationale.

Hopefully, bringing a guy like Andy is a sign that they are trying to legitimize the handicapping element as well with someone that is an actual legitimate handicapper. Hopefully, rather than tell us who he likes, they will allow a more nuanced glimpse into actual handicapping - looking at the race as a whole and the horses in full context and how it is that out of all of them, Andy likes this one or two compared to the others and why.

If Goren is saying that perhaps actually letting viewers see the way a real handicapper can make money betting on the great sport with a little more depth- I think it may very well be a great idea that does change the nature of telecasts away from an endless parade of cheesy stories about the owner's cat that died from Leukemia and inspired the name of the two horse or whatever nonsense they dream up.

Edited... by the way - Congrats and good luck Andy!

No Hammerin Hank? I'll miss those $50 exacta boxes on the two chalks. BTW, DRF says Greg Fox will be on too? Is that on the Woolf Network?

Handicappers like Serling are in too short of a supply for the networks to change their way of broadcasting horse races.

The great handicappers usually lack the desirable on-screen persona...while those with the on-screen persona usually can't handicap their way out of a paper bag, and are not worth listening to.

As great as Serling is in handicapping, he is an even better communicator...and that's a rare combination indeed.

I once had the pleasure of listening to an extended segment where he was fielding horse racing-related questions from a live audience...and I marveled at the skill and the knowledge with which he handled himself.

He is one of a kind...IMO.

I think Donovan's picks do well in the long run. He does come up with some interesting horses.

Good job today. I think it's great a lot of commentary was guided to those who may not be familiar with racing, like these horses won't be in the triple crown those are 3 year old races or explaining what an exacta is etc. Keep it up and maybe a nice fan base can be built.
