Yikes.
Thinning of the heard.
It started in Canada, now the Keystone state ( this one has to be a Death Knell there ).
I wonder which state reallocates next ?

What I will never understand is how come states will not embrace technology. Students who study at home over the internet seem to be ahead of the game. We have several in our neighborhood.

If you let kids study at home over the internet and listen to lectures I believe it would be better for the students. Then the schools could teach application and teaching kids how to socialize and get along. I think a lot of money is being wasted in the school systems that could be better spent.

My sister homeschooled her son. He's in his freshman year of college now in the Ivy Leagues! I homeschooled my youngest, and sent my 2 oldest to public school. Guess which one of my kids is the most knowledgeable.

That bill stinks! :(

If, when Pennsylvania first got racinos, they would have put any effort into growing handle, they would be able to survive this loss of revenue.

I think it all depends on the area your in and what school the kid plans on attending. I know for me the 4 years that I spent in high school were the best of my life. Met people from different parts of the city (Philadelphia) that I would have never met otherwise and learned a lot. If I ever have a kid he/she will never be home schooled.

But not to hijack the thread about my school experience... I'm in favor of this bill. PA racing is a disgrace.

Well, we all saw this coming. Over on this side of the river, the Governor screwed the horsemen when he recently stopped all purse supplements. He didn't lose one vote and has never been more popular.

So a question that begs to be answered:...What becomes of all the agricultural people who will be forced to look for employment elsewhere ?...As a stop gap, probably unemployment benefits will ensue, and perhaps followed by welfare and food stamps, as there are no "shovel ready" jobs to be had as it is...

So now it begins with the states, which will now follow in the footsteps of the current "hollowing out" of Amerika as it stands today...

Pure genius at work...

It doesn't matter, it's all about optics, who should get the money, dirty horseman or poor starving schoolkids?

The exotic wagering takeout rates at PA tracks are massive, and the on-site rebate programs are non-existent

However, at craps, the takeout rate is 1.40% on the Don't Pass, and you're allowed 10-times odds in the back. Meaning, the actual takeout rate is really 0.00128% when you take full odds.

Most amusingly, you seemingly get comped in part, for the buy-in and time spent at the table. Go take $500 in cash to the table, buy-in, and kill some time watching people play, all the while not betting. You'll get free slots play on your players card.

I get $200 a month in free bets from them, free drinks everyday, and free slots play when I want to stand around and watch people play.

When I'm not using my free match-bets that radically tilt the odds in my favor...Out of sheer boredom, every blue moon, I get adventurous and will actually make a few bets into the teeth of that grizzly 0.00128% takeout. What can I say, I've got to have a little degeneracy to me to be willing to surrender that kind of edge to the house.

Needless to say...the tracks in PA don't even care about horse racing. If you know how to work the system, They're willing to comp you into guaranteed small-fry winner status...because they know very few people are going to work them like that.

"Pure genius" is thinking that an unnecessary industry that survives only because it is propped up by vast sums of money from other sources is a good thing and should be continued at any cost.

So true, but at least it employed a whole bunch of people that supported the whole thing, only behind the scenes, at many levels at that....That will be shot now...

Everything is a trade, I guess, but in reality and imo, the kids won't get chit out of it anyway....The school systems seem to work that way in today's world...

It came from the damn casinos anyway, propped up racing or no....It is all gambling all the same, so why not from the casinos.?....That was the whole deal to begin with... And the gov't has simply reneged on the original promises to the horsepeople...

Oh well....

"cut" is maybe a tad of an understatement...
