2 weeks ago i found a 1004.00 voucher in a machine at freehold....however the owner of said voucher came to get it right after i looked at it....so i returned it to him. Over the summer i was on the 3rd floor of the meadowlands with my back to the self service machines when i heard the sound of a ticket being printed....i turned around an there was no one to be found so i knew it was a voucher...i figured it was for .10 or .20....but it was for 275.00....so i took it to the 2nd floor and quickly cashed it in at a teller before they could put a stop on the ticket...tipped the teller 20.00 and left the building. im of the school of thought where if you leave a voucher in a machine and walk away and it's gone that's too bad...be more careful next time. I've left vouchers in machines as well for 40-50 before and it's my fault so i eat the lose.

I wonder if you feel the same about people who happen to drop their wallet without noticing it. Do you feel that it's appropriate to put that wallet in your pocket...while teaching the "careless" person that he should be "more careful" next time?

So...let me see if I understand you here. You heard the sound of a ticket being printed and you turned around...but you never saw the person who left the voucher in the machine as he was walking away? Was the 3rd floor of the Meadowlands THAT crowded during that time?

Or did you notice the person who left it...and you waited until he was safely out of sight before you took the voucher and scurried upstairs to cash it before the man noticed that it was lost?

But hey...at least you tipped the teller a twenty. Very generous of you...

A real "Pillar of Society" :D

Even in a real moment of weakness I did that, I sure wouldn't brag about it.

Once at OTB I had a man crawl between my legs while I was standing there. After he moved on I realized that the hundred dollar bill I had tucked away in my breast pocket was missing, evidently came out of my pocket while reaching for a pencil. You had to put your bets in on a wagering card back then.So there is always someone watching!

And to think, some people say that are school system isn't broken. With that kind of integrity you might want to consider politics as an occupation.

The law didn't go to your school. If the owner can be proven, which is likely, since there are security cameras present, you can be prosecuted for theft in most states.

ugh.....I would say over the last decade i have"'found" about 20 vouchers in the machine and probably lost ten or so. I get so angry at myself for leaving one. :mad: The game is tough enough. Happy to say I never even considered keeping a nickel of the found ones..... Bad Karma and i wouldn't be able to live with myself. The ONLY thing we have in this life that we can keep until our grave is our integrity. Looks, health, strength, vision, hearing, sharpness and tolerance tend to diminish with age. Once a thief....always a thief! :ThmbDown: I have learned however to never have more than two or three hundred on one voucher. If I have more than that sum added up from a win-----i either get cash from a teller or split the vouchers into two--putting one into my hat {all my live tickets are in my ball cap brim.}

The new Meadowlands layout is like the wild west for voucher hawks. During simulcast hours the machine watchers and stoopers are stacked up in the simulcast center. The space between machines and seating is minimal. These hawks are bumping into one another trying to get position. Looking over peoples shoulders to steal pin numbers is incredible easy.

Rumor has it that someone supposedly setup a daily betting acount only to find out the next day that the account was emptied. How this happened without the BIG M card is beyond me.

The difference between a crowd and pure conjestion is blurred. People are bumping into one another on a continuous basis. Pick pockets must love this environment.

Remember the hand is quicker than the eye. Additionally, with the tight spaces your pin number is easily compromised.

Beware.

A couple of years ago I left a voucher in the machine at Saratoga, .When I realized what I had done I asked for help, The old man in the red vest called a young man in a red vest , 5 min. later ,the younger gentleman told me that my $50 had been bet in the next race which was off. If the horse came in the winning ticket would be canceled,so the sucker could not collect, and i would get the winnings even though I didn,t make the bet or have a ticket,I was impressed to say the least Well the favorite lost and thats who the sucker bet,who Me I hit a $5 exacta for like $380, But ever since I only use one machine and I take great care. Mind you this was at the top of the stretch, the little grassy spot where you used to be able to see the horses walk by on the way to the paddock, only like 8 terminals up there,1 teller and an attendant And not too many people on that particular Monday, I hope the sucker who didn;t feel the need to turn in the money continues to have rotten luck at the track.
I ve never found a voucher , but if I do i will do my best to track down the owner ,ask the man in the red vest .Just like a wallet, which I have found some and lost my own a few times and always returned and have been returned to me. Karma is pretty real stuff and you can,t buy it . thats my story

About 15 years ago at Ellis Park I found a voucher for about $750. I turned it in and they told me if no one claimed the ticket it would be mine. We'll no one claimed the ticket so I got the money.

I have lost a couple of tickets over the years but nothing really big. Last year I lost one for $90. I realized it about 2 minutes later. I contacted tote and had the corresponding tickets to go with the voucher. They said the voucher was used to make a small wager on the same race I did. They hit the wager then cashed out. Basically they told me I was sol. Surely they could have had surveillance pulled up the video since there would have been a time stamp and they have cameras at the windows. I would have loved to see that person barred.

If THEIR lives depended on it, they could have found out who did it. But, it was only 'your life' that was in the balance, so they didnt care.

I was at Belmont and my elderly mother was with me at the track. She lost a $175 voucher at a machine. To her $175 is the equivalent of $5000 to a college student. Within the next half hour, a complete "trackie" who usually eats the mustard at the food stand for lunch and who's entire bankroll of 20 is derived upon hand outs from the regulars approaches my mother and says"why do you look yellow? Are you o.k.?" Unbeknownst to me my mother told him "I lost a huge voucher and that's a lot of money to me. If my son finds out, he will be so upset at me because I lose many vouchers". My long time trackie acquaintance gave her the voucher back and told her that he found it. My mother told me about his honesty and I gave him $100 on the spot. Since then, whenever he needs a buck or two to start his gambling day, I give him ten or twenty.

Found one at Saratoga. Was over $200. I was in the upper floor clubhouse. I saw the guy who left it go around to the track side of the windows and bolted after him. It was so crowded i lost him....I stayed in the same area cuz that is whereI was sitting on those benches. I figured I would just wait to see if the guy came back. Held the voucher for over an hour.
Never saw the guy. I went to a machine and scanned it. it was still good, so I kept it.
That was the last time I kept one though because.....I left one for $100. I went right to the mutuels and told the voucher teller. She got the supervisor. He asked me which window. I always remember which one I last used for circumstances like this. He asked how much. I told him to the dime. He looked and found my last transaction. Unfortunately whoever took it, cashed it.
Karma....Over the last couple of years, I have found vouchers. I turn them in.

I dealt with one of these bumper guys at Aqueduct. He tried to steal my wallet. He got arrested. After he almost got a broken wrist. Courtesy of a little "training"...I won't go into it.

Let's see....$275 vs. wearing that fashionable orange jumpsuit for even 1 day.......not worth it.

It's a nice try, but I don't think any judge will agree with your logic.

How about this story.....

1990 Arlington Million. My family was at Arlington for this day. Place was absolutely packed. I was walking with my mom up to the windows to make a bet when she looked over and saw this group of guys at a table with one guy leaning far back in his chair. His wad of money rolled up and held by a rubber band had fallen out of his pocket and was laying on the floor. My mom scurried up there, picked up the wad and told the man. He looked surprised and said "thanks" and went on talking to the group. Not that the guy should have done jumping jacks but it was over the top arrogance.

Not sure how much was in the wad but you could clearly see the top fin was a $100 bill. My mom could have easily turned and walked away with it but she would never do that. Just surprised that people can be so thankless for an act like that.

You mentioned that the person said "thanks". Are you suggesting that by not offering a reward that the person was thankless? Personally I don't feel that I need to be rewarded for doing the right thing.

I wish my voucher/bet slip story had a happy ending but oh well...

I had relatively recently moved to SoCal and hadn't yet gotten really into horseplaying. And I definitely wasn't a horizontal bet guy.

So early one morning I was at my gym putting my bag in a locker, and when I opened the locker door a ticket fluttered out to the ground. It was folded carefully once, and was from Santa Anita about four or five weeks old. It was a Pick-6 play.

I put in in my bag and went about my day an then looked up the results from the ticket day. I really didn't know how to read P-6 results but I recall clearly saying to myself something like "there are too many extra #s besides the winning one in each race" or something to that effect.

I tossed it in the trash.

As I learned more about the P6 I became thoroughly convinced I threw out a winner.

That's why they invented shoes. To stuff excess cash.
My friend's Dad is a particularly lucky individual when it comes to winning at the races. I was once with him when he hit a signer.
Originally he was going to take the cash. I guess we were like 18 or so. We convinced him to have the track cut him a check. He was real excited and a bit nervous cashing a ticket for $7k and wasn't thinking clearly.
Even though he would have been escorted out by his two sons and myself, we thought the check idea was better..

I tend to agree. I was at Meadowlands walking to the windows to make a bet. I guess I was about 19 or so. Guy walking in front of me drops a fifty. I scooped it up and stopped him. Gave it back to him. He made a nice comment thanking me and went to hand me what appeared to be a Ten. I tried to refuse, but he insisted. He said something about being honest and how I was brought up right.
I took the money. It was a ten and a five. In the late 70's that was a lot of money. A full tank of gas in fact. Ok I had a VW....

Similar thing happened to me at the gym, this was many years ago, a guy dropped a 10 as he was leaving (i was leaving too and was 10 yards behind him) and i grabbed the 10 and ran over and gave it to him and he looked at me like i had 2 heads, he was shocked that someone was honest enough to give him back his money.

I left my first voucher in a machine about 2 weeks ago at Pomona for 208. By the time I got to the manager and put the trace on the ticket, it was cashed and I was out 208. I was having a nice time until then. I usually learn the hard way though. The guy who posted earlier that he admitted to stealing the voucher will get his. Dont worry, Karma is a bitch...
