Race 1, 20K show bet on the 1 horse, sitting on the board for what seemed like 30 mins or more, comes off the horse with 9 mtp. (most of it anyway).

The 'big show bet" finishes off the board, but over 10k of the bet was refunded.

4000+ to win on 50-1 ML "Igotnosixes" in Race 3.

Just an honest mistake of course.

Very little of it. First leg of pick 6 carryover, its a fake out bet that will get refunded.

It's about time to cancel those wagers on the 50-1 bomb :3:

Nope.....stayed.

Ran better than 50-1 M/L indicates........but still not close to top 3.

Another example of Obama's wealth redistribution plan via horse racing.

The money stayed in....somebody actually bet him because they liked him?
He was never within 6 lengths of the lead at any stage.

10K on the :3: by race time. Literally unreal.

Next time: call me to book those bets, guys. SMH.

Or maybe PA picked him in that contest with the guy who left a month ago? Could that explain the steam?

It can't be literally unreal, because it was real.

Are threads like these tinfoil, or is there really an attempt at "pool manipulation" going on?

I can't believe the typical bettor who places his/her bets the old-fashioned way (manually online, teller, or self-service machines on track) is rarely steered on or off a horse, especially with a show bet.

But I suppose that automated systems could be "fooled" to some extent, especially ones that spread wagers out over multiple horses and pools.

What we're blind to, of course, is the actual patterns of canceled wagers.

I think some odd high bets are just people that do not understand parimutual betting, and the impact of their bet. It is more obvious in small pool tracks when even $100 becomes very obvious in the place or show pool.

Yes, there was some unusual betting action at SA friday. In the 5th race it caught this player a $62 winner. :jump: #4, Bound For Eden, was bet a little early, at one time 10-1, but more important, the money was all on the front end, little to place or show, and it did not come off late. Looking at the pools at the time, estimated that some one made a thousand dollar win bet on her. That guy or guys collected a very sweet 30Gs after the race thanks to her.

Things in horse racing happen everywhere, but more of them seem to happen in Southern California. A friend of mine says Southern California is like a granola bar. What isn't fruit and nuts is flakes. Sorry, DJofSD.

More disguised version this time. 30-1 #2, SA Race 8, opes at 2-1 with 8K+ on him.

But there are five horses listed at 20-1 or more, three 30-1 and 1 at 50-1. All have been bet down, with only the third favorite scratched. Prob an extra 15K all told spread around to little-hopers.

PK 6 has already carried over. Let's see what happens.

This happened in Race 5 too. The 1 horse opened short and drifted up and paid big balloons, the 2, who was 5-2 ML was like 20-1 First flash.

When someone makes a big bet on a no chance bomb and turns a 6/5 ML into a 5/2 easy winner don't complain and just say thank you.

Odd show bet on a "no hoper" at SA in Race 1 today (Jan 17, 2015)

Don't know if this is a manipulation or not, because the bet could stay in the pools, something worth monitoring.

These types happen every so often, but near as often as people think. The real pool manipulations involve the first 2 or 3 favorites in a race as large bettors attempt to get the odds in line with their figures. You can see pretty often and pretty easily in a lot of races at tracks with high rebates and medium sized handles. Start watching at about 5 MTP.
